Performance Issues ME Pro MX Premium

Your question refers to… Movie Edit Pro

Hi guys

I am having problems with performance.

Machine Specs:

Core i7 950 running at 3.07Ghz per core.

12 Gigs RAM

Windows 7 64bit fully patched, SP 1 IE9

2 x 1TB 7200 SATA Drives stripped with RAID 0

GE Force 8800GTS

23" Monitor

The problems i am having is that when i am in edit mode and i preview the video it plays nicely for about 2 or 3 seconds then starts sticking and jumping through the video.

I have to turn off most tracks in order to have the preview run smoothly.

I used to run on a single 2TB 7200 rpm drive and did the 2x1TB drives raid 0 hoping for an improvement in this area but it is identical.

The drives are not particularly busy during preview periods so i don't think it is data transfer speeds causing this.

I have tried knocking down the resolution of the preview video as well as chojsing other renderers and it gets better but still nothing i would call "nice to use"

We spent a fair chunk on this machine for editing videos and expected better editing performance during previews.

Could anyone offer advise on why or anything i could try. ?

We used to use a Dual Core system with 4 gigs of RAM single drive with version 17 and we had near identical performance on that system, so are now firmly confused.

Hi Mark

Try running the performance check available at the top of this page My PC > performance check and see if it shows any bottlenecks. Maybe post the scores.

Can you overclock your system to 3.4 or 3.6Ghz? More clock cycles seem to help.

Is your Raid  drive a separate AV drive or is it the system drive? Separate is better.

BTW You may have trouble using CUDA encoding on the 8800GTS which Magix do not recommend - see here:-

You can also try differnt cache settings fromthe settings menu item. My system works better whenb set to no cache. Try different settings to see which works best on your system

Hi

Smooth playback depends on many things:

Complicated transitions/effects will slow the playback down.

Other programs are running in particular Antivirus and Antispyware software can take up valuable processor resources and time.

Presumably you have used the Pre-render function to search for and pre-render sections for preview - it is the Eye icon above the timeline - look in the pdf manual for this one.
