using a tascam 16 channel usb interface

i will be getting my tascam 16 channel usb interface in a couple of days and want to know how compatible it is with samplitude programs?. i just started out with the music studio mx but real soon i will upgrade to a much better version.i will be using this with my laptop to record bands where i run sound and also for a mobile recording unit. i have a home setup already...what is a good medium level program to start with ?. thanks ps i have windows 7
