What is the difference between "fleixible crossfade" and standard crossfade transisiton?

I just discovered "flexible crossfade" in the standard fades pool. When I A/B between the two, I can see some subtle differences between video levels in the transition. Can someone please explain exactly what the differences are?

Oh, I found the answer by clicking around. If you right click on the transition symbol in a flexibile crossfade, that allows you access to a "setting" menu, wherein you can set the rapidity of the effect.
