Not sure, but an additional rider on what Terry says would be that 2015 is 64bit so any additional effects plugins that came bundled 2013 32bit will not be available or present if used in the previous project.
What third party effects do you have that came with MEP2013?
We went through this with VideoPro X6 and everything, or almost was sorted out. We found that Magix had already given us their plugins in both 32 and 64 bit. Some third party plug-ins (Pixelan) were already in 64 bit but did not work at first. This was a Magix problem and was quickly sorted out.
Also, some other Magix program, not sure which, came with a converter built-in. We shall see what happens.
MEP2013 Premiuim came with New Blue Video essentials and Prodad Adorage13 HD, but as all the previous bundled effects that came with earlier versions are still available after upgrade to 2014, I would be surprised if they would simply be available in 64bit without jumping through a lot of hoops. Especially if you do not have a CD version.
What was the process you went through?
Can you upgrade separately purchased plugins like Prodad Mercalli V2 without paying more money for the 64Bit version?
Keen to know because I will soon have to upgrade my PC to 64bit and not looking forward to installing all the old versions to get the use of the extras - and not knowing if they will work.
It's been so long, I forgot what actually happened. I took a look back and it seems that nothing happened. See this thread and the message from NewBlue. You participated in another thread about X6 being 64bit, I believe.
Pixelan had issued both 32 and 64bit plugins. Magix finally got them to work in the last patch, which was in March, I believe. Nothing corrected since. Then the whole subject seems to have been dropped from the forum.
I was not able to make my Prodad Adorage (a version from a while ago) work with X6. It does not show up anywhere and I tried setting the path to it in VST plugins. This was the only plugin that I had I believe, as prior to 2014 I did not have the Plus version, and I did not buy the Premium version.
Unless Magix includes a way to use 32bit plugins, as Xara did with Designer 10, then it will be back to asking the manufacturers and raising tickets with Magix.
Someone has just posted in German that they had Mercalli V2 and have now downloaded a 64bit version but it comes up with a blue cross in the frame which I think means it's a trial version! No answers yet but I will monitor.
Another response to the plug in issue in 2015 roughly translated below but difficult to understand. I can make out that he seems to be saying that New Blue colourfast which was bundled in 2014 and VPX5 appears to have installed in 2 different locations and is accessible from 2015. I only have 32bit OS so can not check this further.
One lucky already if a plugin exists in both 32 and 64 bit. To recognize this is the plugin just for installed programs and Programme(x86). The VdL14 or VPX5 included plugin colorfast for MAGIX is one eg. It can now be addressed from VDL14 and 15 gleichermasen. Still 'only' plugin valid for his program calls: in Vdl14 in the 'Programme(x86)' located in VDL15 in the 'Programs' folder.
There goes the other plug-ins from NewBlue eg: it installs both the 32 and 64 bit versions of the plugins. Only unfortunately has it is eyeing NewBlue in the 64 bit versions to implement the MAGIX own interface. Now a 3/4 year waiting for the municipality.
Prodad again as to when the 64 bit of plugins though one version already acquired the 32 bit.
I take note of the statement in the thread you linked to where New Blue admitted they do not have a timescale for releasing 64bit versions....!
FYI, here is the reply that I received from Magix about MEP2015 and whether or not the previous 32bit plugins will work:
"In terms of the 64bit question, then unfortunately the plug-ins will not work in the newer version. You would need to purchase an update from the plug-in provider or keep the older version on your PC to access those plug-ins."

Thanks John, pretty much as we suspected but still not certain that if you you have bought the plugin separately whether you would need to pay for an additional 64bit license for the same thing if it existed. Also the New blue Colourfast with 2014 appears to have installed in 2 locations on a 64bit windows according to the German member.
The question from the German member about Mercalli V2 appears to be that he had uninstalled the earlier version of MEP or VPX it came with, hence it only appeared as a trial version. He did not say whether he had to buy the 64bit version or just download it under his existing license.
I received Mercalli 2 bundled with VPX6, so I have the 64bit plugin.
Now that MEP 2015 is out in the UK, I took a look at the "What's new" in English and a couple of the videos.
I love the "What's new." The marketing and advertising people know how to put a spin on things. Here is the best one:
"Redesigned user interface
Premium video editing deserves a Premium design: Movie Edit Pro's interface has been completely redesigned to meet the high demands of our customers."
Ahhhhh, nope. Unless they mean moving the Scene overview, Timeline mode and Multi-cam buttons to the right side of the screen, I see nothing much different, fortunately. It looks like all of the buttons are still there. The scrubber and mixer buttons are still there, but I don't know if the scrubber options are all there.
Another new feature is:
"Expanded object editing
Movie objects can be cut out even more easily or moved. All changes are automatically taken into account in all MAGIX mouse modes."
I would like to see details on this to see what the difference is.
It doesn't look to me like there is much of anything new other than 64bit and the New Blue Colourfast and Red Giant plugins. If the price is right...., then I can use them in X6. I'm still waiting for major fixes to X6 so I can complete my dual language videos
I'm personally not ready for the daunting project of moving up from XP (32) to Win 7 (64) so for that reason alone I wouldn't be installing MEP 2015. But from what I've heard it doesn't sound worth the hassle anyway.
However, one imminent downside for most of us on MEP 2014 is that our one year's free support will end soon. Unless there's a change in the rules.
There has been some critisim about the missing PDF page, we always got on the website, which listed the new features......too many new features to list maybe .
The expanded object editing might be some sort of "nested sequence" editing affair - isn't that in VPX6??
Movie objects (Nested sequences) according to the Pro site says: "With MAGIX Video Pro X6 entire video sequences can become objects in a project. That means that complete movies can be used in other movies as objects. These objects keep the action close at hand and can be used as many times as needed within the project. Complex movies can be edited easily and flexibly with effects and animations using objects for quick arranging. The possibilities are almost endless. Changes to the sequence are immediately applied to the corresponding objects in all positions."
In English, create the main Movie 1. Create a second Movie 2, a third 3 etc. that you want to use as objects in movie 1. In Movie 1, the other movies show up in the Project Folder window, not available in MEP. Insert Movie 2 into Movie 1 from the Project Folder. This becomes an object in Movie 1, with all effects rendered. All objects in Movie 2 are shown as one object in Movie 1. Now go back and modify something in Movie 2, like effects. Save. Go back to Movie 1 and voila, the object gets updated with whatever was changed in Movie 2.
I haven't gotten to what happens when the project is burned, but I expect that one should just burn Movie 1.
This doesn't answer the question about the expanded object editing in MEP2015, but now you (and I) know what "nested sequences" means in VPX6.
It is a neat feature. I'll have to try this more, particularly with clips that have effects that drag down the rendering. I tried a Pixelan 3D Six-pack transition, page turning FX, and it drags (not smooth) in the original in Movie 2, but goes (almost) smoothly in Movie 1. Much better.
I took the plunge and purchased Adorage13 at the discounted price. I installed the 64bit version and the plugins. Adorage now shows up in VPX6 and it includes the starter pack that I had along with 13. My problem that I indicated in another posting has been solved. This means that if you have other Adorage packages, you only have to get the 64bit motor that comes with 13 for the discounted price, and all should work.
Then I went to MEP2014 and my new transitions, Adorage13, were also there.
Now I think I understand the proDAD offerings. Just buy only the 64bit package that you need. Buy or upgrade gets you the same thing, the 64bit motor, at the same price.
Last, and least, the install program detected another video program on my computer and included the plugin on the list, for several versions, along with Magix. I accepted and it was all installed. So I have the Adorage starter pack and Adorage 13 in this other program.
After taking a look at what you get, most of the transitions are pretty cheesy (meaning not great). But, there is potential and a raft of new masks available.
Next for me is the new Pixelan offering. I looked at the 3 effects offered, and 2 of them are very interesting, the third one SmartSharpen less so, but it still sharpens the image beyond what Magix can do. I'll purchase the 3. If you have purchased any of the bundles from them before, I think that there is an additional discount on this one. I will see. Hope so.
Lastly, I can't see me purchasing 2015 Premium just for the RG and NewBlue plugins unless the deal is very, very good. I have only been offered the Plus version, so I'll have to ask for a price for the Premium.
For Madgix, so long as you have the same plugin, if any, in 2015 that you had in 2013, then you should be able to open 2013 projects in 2015. I am able to do this successfully in VPX6, which is a 64bit version, same as 2015.
So let me get this straight - If I have all those plugins mentioned on the upgrade to 64bit page, in 32bit, and I buy just one 64bit upgrade (the cheapest one), it will install a generic 64bit engine that will allow all the other Prodad 32bit plugins to function in VPX6 or MEP2015??
No, you would have to buy/upgrade, as they say, one of each. My test was only for Adorage, for which there are 13 Volumes. If you have several volumes, you only need to purchase Volume 13 to get access to all of the other ones with the 64 bit engine that comes with it. I guess that Adorage is different from the other products because of the multiple volumes. It would cost almost 800$ to purchase new the All-in-one Adorage of 13 volumes. But if you already had them working with the 32bit engine, it would only cost 67$ to get the 64bit engine and access to the entire 13 volumes.
You would still have to purchase the 64 bit version of the other products. If you have each one, including VitaScene V2 LE but not Pro, then your looking at about 600$. At least proDAD has a special price for the upgrade to 64bit versions.
Sorry for the confusion.
What I find confusing on their site is the "Buy or Upgrade now." The text says that the discount is offered only to proDAD plugins included in older cutting programs. If it's an upgrade from 32bit to 64bit, then why the word "Buy?" It also says simply indicate the serial number of your cutting program or older plugin when you order. Since Adorage was a new purchase at the discounted price there was no reason to indicate and no place to indicate the serial number. I presume that one would have to do so with the other products. If not, then one could simply buy the product new at the discounted price and there is no price advantage for existing customers who only want the 64bit plugins. Maybe if and when you upgrade you can let us know if one can purchase new at the discounted price.
I find the price for just going from 32bit to 64bit quite steep. But then, I don't need to upgrade as Mercalli and Heroglyph LE were bundled with VPX6. I don't have Vitascene. I noticed that there is no Magix plugin for the LE version, only for Pro, and it is far too expensive for what it does. I have pretty much everything that it does and more with Pixelan, at less than half the price.
I find the price for just going from 32bit to 64bit quite steep.
Me too, it's not like you can use both versions at once!
I got Vitascene V2 bundled with an earlier Version of MEP and I quite like it. It has some classy effects and title templates that are infinitely configurable. I have not used it a lot lately because from MEP2013 Magix enabled DX11 Hardware acceleration for effects, which improves preview, but now when a Vitascene effect comes along the preview goes black unless you use Overlay or Compatibility mode, or Always use DX9 in the display settings. Using the latter, of course, negates all the benefits of DX11 for the magix effects.
I am not sure if the bundled version I got is LE but I think so. Interestingly I did a Vitascene Service Update on it a while back and a bunch more effects appeared but I am not sure why.
The more of these plugins you get, the more they start to crossover in what they do, as you point out.
