I composed "Northern Lights" after reading the Phillips Pullman book of the same name.
When I first read the book in 2003, my thoughts were that it should be made into a film. I decided back then to compose what I perceived could be the opening/closing film theme.
Little was I to know that in 2007 the film "Golden Compass" (the America title of the book) WAS to be realised
The track was composed amd sampled using a Yamaha DJX (which I still have).
I have remixed it for upload on here.
I hope it brings some pleasure, so comments welcome
Hi Bigball, you are right on the money
This track was done "live" on a Yamaha DJX keyboard and recorded onto a C90 tape.
My mate then (back in the day) bought a Stereo with a CD recorder on it; so all my tracks written in the late 80's - early 90's I was then able to committed to CD.
For those days technology has moved on ten-fold, and therefore this Tape to CD recording was then ripped to mp3 without unfortunately any filtering, mixing etc.
The track was to hopefully showcase a different style of "old school" synth, actually recorded live; hence the interference/hissing sound quality.
Hello there fellow musician.
I agree with the filter comment, but guess this was ripped from a tape recording, those were the days eh! I really like it, and would love to hear an updated version.....
I'd be up for a new version, defo.....some prog sounds in there too buddy
Good melodies.
Best Regards Neil Brown
