Questions & Answers
what if i want to make an album?
i looked through the guidelines and rules of agreement but i get confused with alot of it. heres my question,
say i made enough songs to put onto a cd, lets say three of the tracks all the loops and samples came from soundpools straight from magix
another three tracks all the samples came from catooh
if i had bought them all would i be able to make any profit, promote, or even use the album in anyways that an artist/record company would use an album?
also what if i legally got the loops free (i just want to know if theres a difference between purchased and free)
and non of the samples on the album were purchased?
do the rules change as opposed to free?
Only the sounds in MAGIX Music Maker and the Soundpool DVD's can be legally used for commercial purposes (public performance, for profit, etc.).
No other media content in any other MAGIX product can be used for these purposes.
When you purchase media from CATOOH, you are purchasing a license to use that media. Unfortunately, they do not clearly delineate what kind of license or any limitations. I would have to assume it is unconditional.
Naturally, any original media content that you create yourself IS legal to use for any purpose since you own the copyright.
It doesn't matter whether you purchase the material or get it for free. The important thing is that you have explicit permission to use it.
The problem with downloading "free" samples off of the internet is that you don't know where they came from, whether they were legally obtained in the first place, or how to find the copyright holder to obtain permission to use it. To do so without explicit permission is taking a risk.
