HEVC Codec Upgrade, Is this new?

Antiguo usuario escrito el 10.06.PM a las 23:39 horas

Hi, I got a new phone a couple of wks back & I renewed my Magix edit pro plus package only a couple of weeks ago too, until today I've been able to import & edit my MP4 video files, but just now it won't import them I'm asked to pay £3.99 for a HEVC Codec Upgrade? can anyone tell me of this is something new or can i just un-tick something in Magix?

I've just tried a few videos i made last week with this phone & I have an ongoing project where it copied the files to a project folder, it lets me import any of them, just not the ones i made today & transferred to my pc, ?

Sorry worked it out i think, My Huawei p30 phone records at various aspect ratios 30fps, 60fps or Auto, It also has a setting which is H.264 & H.265, the videos i made today must have been made on H.265, the settings on the camera must have got changed accidently, I've changed it to H.264 & all is fine, new clips will now load into Magix, I guess I'm going to have to use a converter to recode the clips i made today

Best way to "convert" is to use Handbrake. When GoPro decided to use the HEVC(h.265) codec in the upper end recording, then "BUTCHERED" the GoPro Studio program, it left a lot of angry users. The best that was "accepted" as a solution, was to convert it in Handbrake.

If you have not used it before, here is an excellent Tutorial by Derek Moran (a.k.a. Dr. Zen), who is the owner/creator of the MovieStudioZen.com website. Hope this Helps!

HI

FYI the H.265 has always been a paid upgrade to Movie Edit Pro. It comes with Video Pro X though.

Thanks, I've just recoded them with free Any Video Converter, it did them quite fast & the quality is good, it's hard to distinguish with the originals, I've learnt a lesson & mmcswnavy24 I'll look into Handbrake thanks,

Hi, Thanks Scenestealer, nice to know, Would the upgrade have converted the H.265 files to H.264 when importing? £3.99 isn't much & i was tempted but wasn't sure they would load even after paying that extra for the codec.

@Antiguo usuario

Would the upgrade have converted the H.265 files to H.264 when importing?

No, it would import them to the timeline which would then accept them and play them and you could then export them to any codec (eg. H.264) and format that exists in the export templates. That is providing the files your phone creates do not have unusual attributes - for example some phones record with a variable frame rate which MEP does not like. You could analyse your files in Explorer using the free utility "Media Info" and copy and past the text or tree output file here so we could check it out.

Ok thanks, good to know that the vid clips wouldn't change & the quality wouldn't be lost. 👍

Yep the bad vids I created today in H.265 that wouldn't import without the codec upgrade were filmed on the Auto setting, the frame rate of the clips was varied when i looked at the details in properties, I changed the camera from Auto to 30 & 60fps but the new clips i made wouldn't load, but when i tried filming at H.264 in 30fps, 60fps & Auto mode they loaded into Magix, I've reset my phone back to 60fps -H.264, I'll keep an eye on that & hopefully all should be fine. Thanks
