I am using Movie Edit Pro 2013 Plus and I want to upload my video to You Tube. My file is .MVP format and I need to convert it, but the question is..................What format do I convert it to ? and how do I do that ?
The MVP file is your project file, it is not a video file that can be read by other programs, equipment, or uploaded. To create a video file, you have to export to one of the appropriate video file formats. Please read the manual, especially the Quick Start part. Read the section on Export in the manual or the online Help (F1) to properly understand what you are doing. There is a part called "Upload to Internet."
To export, click on the Export button at the upper right of the screen. You will see several choices for exporting. One of them is for uploading to YouTube. I strongly suggest that you first export as a video file and view the result with Windows Media Player as you may not be happy with the video and want to edit it more before uploading.
To add a little more information, The following file formats are supported by YouTube .MOV .MPEG4 .AVI .WMV .FLV and a few other less commonly used formats such as 3GPP, MOV .MPEGPS and WebM. The default settings for .MOV and .Avi will produce very large files. I typically use .mp4 and have been pretty happy with the quality. The automatic youtube uploader in MEP is easy to use when it works. I personally as well as a number of other users, have had mixed results getting files to youtube this way. So I know always just save the file to a folder on my desktop (mine is called YouTube Uploads) and log in to youtube, choose upload and upload my files that way.
To do this, click "file" "export movie" then choose the format you want to export to. In the image below I have chosen MPEG4
This dialogue box will open. Follow the instructions on the image.
Your file should have exported successfully. Log in to your YouTube account and upload your video.

Hi John CB
Sorry for the delay in writing but have been involved in domestic issues (flooded garage).
Thank you very much for your advice. I did not realise that MVP file was a project file and could not be uploaded to YouTube. I have done as you suggested and I have managed to upload my file. However, I didn't manage to do it the quick way and had to wait about an hour for it to upload. However, I will study the information about Quickstart and give that a go next time I upload.
Thanks again.
John

Hi George
Sorry for the delay in replying but have had a domestic issue (flooded garage).
It's all quite technical, this really but I have, I think, got my head round it all. I realise now that MVP files are project files and it's not a video file. Anyway, I have managed to change my file format to MPEG 4, which then somehow manages to change it to MP4. It's all very bewildering for a non-geek person like myself, however, it appears to be working and for me that's all that matters.
I agree that the automatic uploader in MEP is not all that wonderful. I was getting on fine until it asked me for my password, which it didn't like and that brought the whole proceedings to a sudden halt. So as you quite rightly say, going on to YouTube and uploading it from there is the way to do it. However, it did take over an hour to do that so I will need to learn how to do it the quick way. I think I will study the information about Quickstart and give that a go next time. Can you tell me if using Quickstart will cause any issues with the quality of the video?
Anyway, thank you so much for your comprehensive reply to my query.
John
.mp4 and mpeg4 are really the same thing so don't worry about that. Sorry to hear about your garage flooding, but better your garage than you house. Either way, it still sucks. The time it takes to upload to YouTube really depends on your file size, your internet speed and the traffic on YouTube while you are trying to upload. If you try to upload a large file durining peak activity, the time will be long. That is why I upload to youtube at 3 or 4 AM. Fortunatley for me, I am awake at that time so no big deal.
