Another update on the terrible performance of MEP 15

I just wanted to thank the people at Magix for producing such a really lousy product in Movie Edit Pro 15 Plus. I don't know what you did, attempted to do or why you did it but I just wanted to let you know how I have wasted 3 days on Movie Edit Pro 15 Plus! And it is not for lack of knowledge using Magix products. I have been a Magix user for 8 to 10 years and was a very satisfied customer, until now...

I purchased the new version MEP 15 for $79.99 the end of March. It came in promptly but I had some REALLY MAJOR video productions in the works already with MEP 14 and did not dare to or want to take the time to change gears and install MEP 15 to make the switch.

I finally got all the RUSH graduation, wedding, memorial, family and anniversary productions finished so I decided to install MEP 15 this last weekend and start working it. Well, I got a few more movie films to DVD to do on friday and thought this was GREAT! I now was going to be able to use my new MEP 15 software! Well, in a nutshell, the software has failed me miserably and as a result I have uninstalled MEP 15 from my computer and I will NOT be using it again. I am still suffering the aftermath of the terrible, horrible software... Do I seem upset?? YUP! VERY!

I moved the 3 recordings for the projects out of MEP 15 MY RECORD folder and into MEP 14, then uninstalled MEP 15 a short while ago. The only repercussion from doing this was I had to reactivate the MPEG2 codec. Mind you, I spent saturday from 3:30 PM until 1 AM recording some old home movie reels into MEP 15 to make a DVD. I started working on the project sunday at 1 PM and had to learn where all the different functions were, all while having to fight with MEP 15's crashing, projects disappearing, program just disappearing off my screen, errors, locking up and having to reconstruct my project 4 times before being able to burn it, only to find out the finished DVD video was full of defects where it was speeding up, stuttering or freezing ever so slightly for a split second, running at normal speed, speeding up, split second pause, kind of fluttering, just plain garbage recording and it was like this through the whole freaking DVD!

I threw that DVD away and started in tonight working to reconstruct the project in MEP 14. Upon completion I previewed the project before attempting to burn a DVD which is something that you CAN'T do with MEP 15. I found out the mpeg recording made with MEP 15 is where the pausing, fluttering, speeding up, slowing down of the video came from. I even tried playing the mpeg recording with a different video player and on a different computer and it was still there! And this was just the 21 minute movie reel for ONE project! I have the other project with 25 reels of film that I spent most of saturday until 1 in the morning recording. These were also recorded with MEP 15. That project was still waiting for me to work on it.

With the crappy recording results in the first MEP 15 recording in mind, with clenched teeth, increasing blood pressure and anger I imported the 25 reel job into MEP 14 and found that it too has the same speeding up, stuttering problem as the first project. I know it was because I was recording with MEP 15 and the defect is on every single film I recorded! I now have to spend another TEN HOURS re-recording all the films with MEP 14 so I have GOOD raw mpegs to work with. Makes me SO HAPPY I could just... well, you know!

I would just like to give a big Thank You to Magix for dropping the ball on Movie Edit Pro 15. Thank you for $80 bucks wasted and 3 days of my time and labor down the drain! A friend, who is also a Magix user, warned me to NEVER buy the newest sequential version of a Magix product. He said you should always wait and get every OTHER version as there are typically bugs and other problems that need to be fixed. I should have waited for the NEXT version of the product. I bought MEP 12 and LOVED it! I then waited and bought MEP 14 and LOVED IT! Guess I should have waited for MEP 16 in a few years. Magix obviously has some serious problems with the current version of MEP 15 and I am SO disappointed and disgusted right now!

All I can say is I am SO GLAD I don't have a dead-line for these projects that is coming right up. Most of the time I am under the gun to get a project finished for a special event and people don't always give me enough time to properly spend on the project. Anniversary is coming up in 6 days and they want a picture show with video included for the event as a surprise or a wedding is 2 weeks away and the person has 1,000 pictures they want for a Picture Show for the wedding or somebody special has died and the funeral is in 2 days... you get the idea...

Thank God that MEP 14 is such a reliable piece of software and that I did not try to use MEP 15 when under the gun!

Sorry if I offended anybody but darn it all Magix, you've got to do a better job on this software BEFORE you release it! That's all I'm going to say...

Would be nice if I could get my money back. I can't use this software.

Hey Tave,

What a horror story!  This is not at all an "I told you so" reply to your pain.  I just got lucky.  I've loved MEP 14+ since it came out.  Note, I said since it came out.  Just like you did with MEP 15, I bought MEP 14+ as soon as possible, uninstalled MEP 12 and went to work, loving the product more than any previous one.

I was ready to drop the bucks for MEP15 except I reviewed this user's forum and the support.magix.net user's forum and saw lots of complaints.  I installed the trial version of MEP 15 and, other than a tweaked layout, I didn't see anything worth the money or the risk.  Plus, with the comments that Magix seemed to be changing MEP to the programming code used for one of their other professional products, I decided to wait a while and see what has going to happen.  Thus, I got lucky.

In any case, I said all of that simply to let you know there are MEP users who totally understand your pain.  I'm sticking with MEP14+ for the forseable future.

The bad thing is, while the best advice is to not get MEP 15, for beginning MEP users (who don't have a valid pre-MEP15 version), I don't think it's possible to purchase MEP 14 any longer.  Maybe on e-Bay?

Magix has really made a mess for themselves and I'm betting their competition is getting customers who would have been happy MEP 14 users.

Too bad.

You should copy your post in this user's forum to the "contact us" link at support.magix.net and let them know directly your experience.  I'm sure they are getting an ear full!

God bless

I wish I'd bought the 14...I'm a editing novice and thought it was just me having trouble with this software... I just had a failed dvd burn and now the screen is frozen and I'm not sure what to do....

Same story for me.  Waisted 3 days to produce junk.  Don't have 14 to roll back to so took a chance and bought 17 to try and save me.
