Hi

There is no need to remake anything.

In MEP select File, Burn CD/DVD then select the option you require - if you have a good working disc then select Copy CD/DVD directly.

learning,

John has given you the direct answer for a copy DVD, but I'm curious why you can't save your menus should you sometime need to create a DVD from the original project, perhaps after a minr edit. When you say "...go to make more copies..." are you re-opening your .MVP project and then going to the 'Burn' tab?. Just checked with both MEP 17 and MEP 2014 and all my menu choices (template, fonts, thumbnails etc) get saved within the project and are there if I open it later on. I'm just using 'File' >> 'Save' or 'Save as' options.

Regards,

Carl

Carl, Thank you for asking.  I believe I am having an issue with how I save the project.  If it stays as a mvp. file in my project folder I can burn additional copies, and the menu page stays, but if I save it or export it to a different type of file I loose the menu page.  I am messed up on how to save it I believe.  My GOAL is to SAVE a FINAL COMPLETE copy and if I want to burn more copies in a year the menu page is there...Argh...hope this makes sense.

Argh... >> Ahhh... You're mixing fish and fowl so to speak -- projects and exports are two different beasts, and DVDs with menus are another thing altogether.

  • First a .mvp project can be thought of as set of instructions like what parts of what clips and what images are to be used, what order will they appear, what effects are added such as transitions, crops or zooms. Plus, perhaps, information for creating a DVD menu.
  • Next a video export (eg .mov or .mpg or .avi) is a single length of film made by following the project instructions. If you use 'File' >> 'Export movie' >> Video as MPEG...' you get just that, a mpeg format video clip, no DVD menu content whatsoever even if it was part of the project.
  • Third the DVD production creates a special set of file which contain the actual video material split into chunks of about 2GB each, the menu material including images or tiny clips and the instruction for how the buttons should operate, and usually backup copies of the latter.

For making copies of your DVD you have three choices:

  • Easiest, if you have a good DVD disc, you can copy it directly, either with MEP as John suggested or using something like Nero or other software that probably came with your DVD burner.
  • If you have saved your .mvp project and still have all the video, audio and image files it used in their original locations (eg C:... or D:...) you can go through the whole rendering, compilation and burning process again. This obviously takes longer but you have the opportunity of making changes before you burn.
  • An in between option is available if you saved all the special DVD files that were created when you burnt your first DVD they can can be used as is. Related is the use of a 'disc image' which can be burn as is. See this post for more detail: http://www.magix.info/us/what-is-the-fastest-way-to-burn-multiple-copies.knowledge.1039289.html

Hope this gets you sorted out,

Carl

Carl, First thank you very much for taking the time to give such a clear and detailed answer.  It is grealy appreciated. A couple more questions if you would be so kind.

1. Thank yor for clarifing that I cannot export the menu.  I thought I was doing something wrong.

  • no DVD menu content whatsoever even if it was part of the project.

2. I only have one CD drive in my computer so I cannot copy one DVD to another DVD.  Perhaps I should look in to this option in the future.  After reading many of the comments it seems a common practice.

  • Easiest, if you have a good DVD disc, you can copy it directly, either with MEP as John suggested or using something like Nero or other software that probably came with your DVD burner.

3. Below is exactly what I have been doing and have learned the hard way I cannot move files.

  • if you have saved your .mvp project and still have all the video, audio and image files it used in their original locations (eg C:... or D:...) you can go through the whole rendering, compilation and burning process again. This obviously takes longer but you have the opportunity of making changes before you burn.

4. Concerning the disc image .iso?

  • Probably the easiest is to do your first output not directly to disc, but to the 'image recorder' option which creates a 'disc image' (.iso) and a set of files (.BUP, .VOB etc)) which can then be burnt to multiple DVDs. See this thread for more detail:

I read through the thread but am not clear.  If I save the Disc Image (iso) do I need the Magix software to burn any future discs?

My ultimate goal is to save the MENU and FINISH project.  So if I have any future needs for additional discs I simply open the file and burn...

I hope this make sense.

Thank you again.
