Chroma Subsampling (Part 2)

Greetings,

Further to my topic in July 2024 re "the Dark Arts", I have more queries.

Sometime ago I bought the MagicYUV codec and have used it extensively for VHS rips etc. but only in it's basic form - no special presets. That's irrelevant so anyway, Yesterday I thought I'd find out what all the presets did and what tweaks are available.

No problems with most of the tests exporting from MS2025 and Virtualdub and even the ultimate "Black Art" FFMPEG (I like FFMPEG now that I've figured out what the bits do - mdecimate, minterpolate, colorspace and format particularly) but as FFMPEG apparently uses their own version of MagicYUV I feel it doesn't really count for these tests with MS2025.

OK, the problem. To cut a long story short, I imported an AVI (MagicYUV @ YUV444) into MS2025 and added a bit of gamma, a few cuts and some colour. No problem. Then on one of the clips I removed the audio and slowed the video down to 75%; on playback MS coughed and threw up this

I tried it again several times; sometimes MS just shut down other times it hung or gave the error message. Obviously something to do with the clip and may well be a one off BUT my question is - why did the crash cite an error in CFHD.dll? Isn't CFHD Cineform? What has that got to do with MagicYUV?

Questions, questions, questions.

I do have GoPro Cineform Decoders 1.2.0 installed for something I did a few months ago.

The same file loads into Virtualdub and Shutter Encoder and can be edited without a problem so I assume that 4:4;4 and MS2025 aren't really big pals.

I have a crash log if it's of interest. The mediainfo info(?) shows nothing untoward but again, is available.
