Crossfade not working properly on video

If I put a photo object (on the timeline) AFTER a video scene object, then push them together, the overlap provides a crossfade which works properly when viewed.

However, if I put two video scene objects side by side, then push the second one to slightly overlap the first, the crossfade "X" appears as usual, but when played back, as soon as the timeline cursor hits the crossfade point, the playback screen just freezes on a frame from the first video object and holds it, until the timeline cursor completely passes over the first object onto the second, and playback resumes as usual.

Anybody else run into this?  It's weird, and bloody irritating...  just got the program, and this is seriously bringing down my view of Magix's product line, which has otherwise been good, with all the products of theirs that I've tried in the past.

Thanks.

UPDATE

I've discovered that this version is number 12, which is rather old, it seems.  Probably explains why it was on for sale so cheap at The Source.

Further experimentation has shown that even though the monitor image "freezes" as the timeline cursor moves thru the crossfade zone, when the movie is rendered in final form, the crossfade works perfectly.

Also, if I manually drag the cursor left or right across the crossfade zone, the monitor also accurately represents the degree of fade at each point of the crossfade.  However, it simply refuses to display the crossfade when running in review, at regular speed.   IRRITATING!!

And my computer's only a year and a half old, so it's not old hardware that's the problem.  I think the software is SO old, it's not designed for current hardware specs.

What I wonder now if there's a setting in the program where you can adjust memory caching or buffering specs that will help remove this irritating effect.

Has anybody found any way of adjusting program internal settings?

Thanks!!

It sounds like its the computer, not the software.

Perhaps your graphics card is trying to read/display to much information and it just cannot deal with the packets coming in.

I recommend starting a new project do this with just two videos, try playing, then export the file out as a video (avi) and see if that resulting file also suffers the issue.

Agree with john-auvil.

Please post your computer specs ie Processor type and speed, RAM installed Windows OS version and whether 32 or 64 bit, HDD size(s) and free space.

Also version of MEP being used and the video formats you are using and resolutions.
