Does Movie Studio 2025 Platinum support HEVC?

mlp-mlp wrote on 5/27/2025, 2:03 PM

I know little about video formats, but am looking for simple editing software to deal with DJI Action 4-generated MP4 videos, among others, and am trying to decide if upgrading from Sony Movie Studio 12 to Magix 2025 Platinum will solve the issue of the HEVC codec. With the 2025 Platinum trial version, I get the error that the codec is not available. Can this be added?

@mlp-mlp Hi.

upgrading from Sony Movie Studio 12 to Magix 2025 Platinum

Magix Movie Studio is not an upgrade from Sony Movie Studio 12, Magix Movie Studio is a different program but it is a good basic editor, as you say you're looking for 'simple editing software' so I'm sure it will suite your needs. You've got the Trial so go through it & see if it does what you want. If you want an editor that is very similar to your Sony Movie Studio go to the Magix website & download the Vegas Pro Trial, Vegas Pro will look & feel very much like your Sony Movie Studio 12 but is quite a bit more expensive.

DJI Action 4-generated MP4 videos, among others, and am trying to decide if will solve the issue of the HEVC codec.

Yes Magix Movie Studio supports HEVC, (the codec thing gets sorted after purchase..) . However I've read a few times about 'DJI' on the forums, some people seem to have had problems, I think that was with the drone footage though.. You could upload a sample to Google Drive or another file sharing site & we'll test it for you. Whether it will ok for you as it does for us is a different matter but I think the chances of there being a problem a very small 👍

@Gid

Hi

To add to @Gid comment

There is a series of tutorials listed here to give you a good understanding of how editing in Magix Movie Studio is different from the old Sony version.

Regarding the DJI Action 4-generated MP4 videos.

I record HEVC 50 fps 10bit D-Cine on my Action 3, MMS 2025 does support importing these files, the only extra step I have to take with the D-Cine video is to us a LUT to bring the D-Cine colour profile - LUTs are available from DJI.

Thanks for the help and advice. I took the 'upgrade' offer and installed Movie Studio 2025, and was able to open one of the DJI Action 4 videos, no further fiddling needed. I haven't gone any farther, but will check out the tutorials when I get back to it.
