DV AVI files skipping during playback

I'm using Movie Edit Pro 14 Plus.

When I play HDV or Mpeg files on the timeline, I have no problems.

But currently I'm working with DV AVI files (NTSC, 4:3, Bottom Field First).  The timeline is set to the stated format, and the System is set to NTSC, too.  The files, apparently where there is movement of objects or camera, are skipping in places (the same places every time).  Changing to Top Field First does not correct the skipping.

However, when I burn a DVD, using either Field Order, it plays back perfectly on a DVD player.  The motion on the Flat Screen (or on an Interlaced TV) is perfectly smooth.

Experiments

1.  I exported a DV AVI of the timeline and played it in Media Player Classic.  Still skipping.

2.  I reimported that DV AVI back into MEP and burned it to DVD.  The DVD was skipping in the 'skipping places'.  Field Order change still produced the skips.

3.  The source DV AVI file (before import into MEP) plays smoothly in Media Player Classic.

Conclusion

MEP 14 Plus seems to be causing the skipping and solidifying it into its DV AVI exports!

Any ideas?

Seamus.

Well, if a file 'skips', yet burns fine, why not try out reducing the preview resolution in the program? Quick route is simply depressing Y when the program is open. This'lll give you Program Settings, and check under Display/ or Video Audio (mine's newer, but it will be similar if not those two) and reduce resolution of the preview/playback. It won't touch the resolution of what you burn, just ease up the preview, which is quite basic in nature and not a full player.

Thanks M o' L.

I actually tried reducing Resolution, etc, but the skipping is still there.  Also, the fact that Media Player Classic plays the source file without skipping and plays the exported-from-MEP file with skipping indicates that MEP is not only causing the playback to skip, but is encoding that skipping into a DV AVI NTSC export.

Intriguing.

What version of MEP do you use?  Do you process DV AVI NTSC files?

Hi Seamus, this is is kind of where my usefulness to you ends. I'm running MEP 17 Plus, but working with PAL files, not NTSC. In light of the age of your program, nothing is going to happen there, unless someone here solved it.  Why not try out a free trial of 17 Plus? If you do, you only get the whole 30 days if you extend for this period, otherwise it's a case of game-over rather quickly.

Sorry couldn't think of anythin else. M o' L.
