I have Magix Movie Edit pro 15. After editing a small wmv file of 8MB the exported AVI file is 4GB. How can I get the final edited file the same or smaller than the original?
File size, for any given length of video, depends on the pixel dimensions of the output (eg 320 x 240 vs 1920 x 1080) and the format of the ouputt file (eg whether the information is un-compressed or compressed and the 'quality' of the compression. There are lot of variable to consider!
The simplest way of getting the about the same size would be to export at the same resolution and format as your original. If this is not an option for what you are planning to do with you film, you need to check the export settings. MEP's export windows have a dropdowns for presets and fields where you can chose values. Note also the 'Advanced...' button. If you are using AVI you will find a list of codecs which are the methods by which the video information is compressed (or not). I'm not too familiiar with all the choices but suggest you try some and compare -- perhaps only doing a small sample rather than you entire film.
