Getting AVCHD video onto the timeline.

I'm trying to get AVCHD video into the timeline, but it doesn't seem to be working properly.

It's already imported to the drive, and it does show up in the timeline when imported, but I can only access the first 18 or so seconds. This does not bode well for this program's continued use.

The file isn't corrupted, and plays fine in video players, so I definitely have the appropriate codecs... Any help?

As for specifications, I am using Magix movie edit pro 16 plus HD (what a mouthful) on Window 7.

Hi,

What is the computer power you have in hand.

Computer must be I7, running Windows 7 64 bits, minimum 16 gig memory, good video card that is my configuration at 8 gig memory software must skip frames to display smooth video. You need power to calculate when you move on timeline or try to cut scene.

Yeah, I'm running 64 bit with a fairly new quad-core CPU (overclocked on demand). Graphics card isn't great for editing, but it keeps up fairly well.

I haven't had any problems with previewing. I think my problem had to do with a proprietary codec; the clip I was trying to import was 720p, which may mean it was AVCHD lite (which could mean just about any proprietary variation of AVCHD). I tried another 1080i clip at 17Mbps and it seems to work just fine.

I haven't tried a different 720p clip yet, to make sure it wasn't a one-off error; my camera battery is charging at the moment.

I'm still interested to know if there is an easy fix to import 720p AVCHD video though; I don't want to keep too much 1080i video hanging around taking up space, if I can help it.
