HELP!! Why does Movie Edit Pro 16 Plus freeze & crash when 'reading directory...'?

rooroo247 wrote on 8/25/2011, 12:21 PM

I CANNOT use the software AT ALL until this is fixed!! Please help!

I start MEP16+ up as usual, then at the top right-hand corner I press 'edit' (in between 'record' and 'burn') - This is normally where either the project you are opening loads, or a new project opens. Instead - The bottom right hand corner, next to where it says 'CPU', says 'reading directory...', everything freezes and remains stuck in 'not responding mode'. The only way to close it is through Ctrl+Alt+del and Task Manager.

I have already uninstalled and then re-installed MEP16+ and nothing changed. I am using Windows Vista.

I cannot access any projects that already exist on my hard-drive and I can no longer create a new project.

Hi

It is possible that there is either a corrupt file in the folder being read or the file system has a corrupt entry.

Try the following:

1   Copying the contents of the directory it is trying to read to another folder and see if you get any errors.

2   Run a Windows  Scandisk or Chkdsk to verify the hard drive files and folders are OK.

3   Find out what make hard drive you have and see if the manufacturer has a disk checking tool, Seagate, Maxtor, Western Digital, Hitachi and Samsung have a tool available.

Hi

What Anti-virus are you using?

John

AVG Free Edition 2011

johnebaker wrote on 8/26/2011, 12:01 PM

Hi

Not too familiar with the latest AVG - I changed to Avast! because of previous problems with AVG - slowing my computer down considerably!!.

Look for an option in your antivirus to turn off Scan on Demand (or something similar).  If it does not have this option temporarily disable it - not connected to Internet - and see if that fixes the problem.
