How can I edit a video (cut portions out) that I have imported from another device?

I am a novice. I have pulled video from my computer onto the timeline, but I only want to use a small portion of the video file. How can I cut that down or otherwise edit it?

Sparty77,

Move the play cursor to the places you want and hit the [T] key to makes cuts and then click to select pieces you won't use and delete them. If you hold down the [Ctrl] key when you hit delete the gap will be closed as well.

Note the MEP editing is 'non-destructive' -- you havn't deleted any files. The timeline shows what parts are to be played and parts removed can be restored by dragging out their ends.

There are some additional methods but this should get you started.
