How do i record my keyboard's audio? (not as a MIDI)

I use Magix Music maker 2014 Premium and my keyboard is a yamaha DGX-650. I do not want to use it as a midi, i want to record it's audio as i play it but i can't get the program to work with it. The computer detects it fine and i can even get it's sound to go through the computer speakers butwhen i activate music maker and try to record it it doesn't record anything. The only thing it seems i can do is use it as a midi but magix's VST and every other VST i find on the internet for piano completely sucks. I want to be able to record my keyboard's voice on the program. Anyone know how to do that?

Can you tell us the steps that you took to try to get the keyboard to work? In detail, step by step.Some screen shots would help. We can only guess at what you have done.

First you need check that, when you have the audio out from the keyboard plugged in to the Line in on the computer (blue socket) that the Line in is set for recording.

Assuming you are using at least Windows 7 and have a Realtek HDA audio chipset - right click the speaker icon bottom right of your Windows desktop and select Recording Devices - this will open the dialog box shown below

You should see the Line in active - if not right click on the blank area in the centre box and select Show disabled devices and Show disconnected devices.

Hopefully the Line in will show up as disabled - enable it if it does by right clicking it and selecting Enable.

The dialog should then show the Line in as active as shown below

You should now be able to select Line in as the recording source Music Maker as shown below

If Line in does not appear then a 'dirty' fix select the Stereo mixer and enable it - you can then set the Stereo mixer as the recording source in MMM.

However with the 'dirty fix' any system sounds or other audio being played will also be recorded so you need to turn these off or reduce their volume to zero.

You will also need to play around with the volume settings in the Windows Volume mixer control panel (right click the speaker again) to get the right levels.

Further to John EB's reply (he beat me to it) here is the MMM screen to find things in MMM.

We presume that you connected your keyboard's Audio-out to the Line-in of your computer and do not have the midi connection enabled or connected.

Once you have the properties set, click ok then click on the red rec button to start recording.

You guys are really good at this.. I followed all of those excpet for one thing- I am using a laptop and don't have a LINE IN slot. What i am using is a Line out to USB. It is the same issue with my bass guitar. The computer keeps recognizing them as a Microphone and even though i can get both instruments to play thorugh it's speakers i can't get them to produce audio or record in the music maker. In the program settings it recognized my keyboard when i set it to the input audio, but it still wouldn't play or record.

Now we're getting closer. I use an M-Audio M-Track mixer that I connect to my computer using the USB connection. The input to the mixer is either guitar or mic or both. However this requires an Asio driver and this may be your problem. Go to settings and select the Asio driver if there is one. Did one come with your keyboard? If so, install it. If not, download Asio4all and install it. Make sure to open MMM before connecting the keyboard or guitar and make sure that the Asio driver is set first.
