Hi,

Normally we use a WMV file to produce for web or a presentation video this is a compressed file and this is normal that it use less space versus a AVI that we use in editing. When we need to edit or work on with another software we export the file in AVI if you need to present WMV is a good format but look for MP4 format using H.264 codec. MVP file is a Magix working file better to export to be compatible with all player.

MEP17 and 17+ both support import/export of WMV(HD).  You don't specify which version of MEP you have so possibly you have an older version that does not support wmv.

As YR said, the MP4 format is a very good choice.  Files are highly compressed compared to MPG2 and the quality is very good.

If you just have to have wmv and all you are doing just cutting of the tail end you could use Windows Movie Maker.  You don't specify your operating system so do an online search for Movie Maker for your operating system if you don't already have it installed.
