I am trying to restore tracks from an album that is only moderately worn, but I find that most of the tracks have distortion after the vinyl restoration process has been used.

I have not had this problem before although I have used Audio Cleaning Lab to digitise quite a few albums that I own. The trouble is that I do not really understand what the different types of distortion are actually called in the program. Can you help?

We need more information.

Please tell us, in exact detail, about the complete signal chain from the turntable to the computer. We need to know the make and model of each piece of equipmment, what cables are being used and what jacks the cables are plugged into.

You said you have already applied some "cleaning" by using ACL. What cleaning tools did you use in this example? Can you post a sample of the original recording?

I can't post a copy of the original track without re-doing the restoration. I used a Digitech turntable connected to my computer via USB. It is a low priced turntable but has a dedicated Windows connection. I have used it for a while now and have not had such poor results with other records in worse condition than this one. As to which ACL functions used I don't have a detailed recollection, but I used the vinyl restoration presets.

I intend to redo the digitising of this LP when I have time so I will keep a copy of the unrestored tracks and note the actual cleaning processes used. I will pick up this thread when I have more details.
