i have about 4 tracks of image and audio scattered across my timeline . i need to cut something early on, and get all the material to sqeeze up to the cut in one movement. can i do this without having to resynch all my later stuff ?

If you are deleting a complete clip on the timeline, select the clip and press Ctrl + Del this will delete the clip and close up the gap.

If you are cutting a section of for example a long clip, then you need to make 2 cuts at the beginning and end of the section you want to delete, enusre it is selected and then use Ctrl + Del.
