Does not have good directions on actually applying the tools - it tells you they all exist but how to apply to your video.

Have you looked in the 'Help' file? You simply drag an audio file (.wav, .mp3 etc) to the timeline from either the media pool or from an Windows explorer window. It will be placed where you release you mouse button and can adjust volume, cut out sections, move elsewhere, cross fade with other material... Right click on an audio object to get an extended list of effects.

I suggest you go to Youtube and search for Magix. You'll find several how-to videos that will answer your basic questions.
Once you get past the first hump - learning what the different controls are - you'll pick up speed in learning the program.
