Imported Video has distorted soundtrack in Movie edit Pro 17 Plus HD

When I import DV as an AVI file I get terrible audio. There is a very loud humming. What little I can make out of the original audio is playing very slowly. I can play the video and hear the audio fine in other applications such as Windows Media Player and other video editing software. What can I do to fix this?

That is a good question, but the playback and reading of the file to be edited would be two different things.

To me, it sounds as if the audio sample rate doesn't match the project sample rate. It shows a sample rate of 32.0 KHz where normal audio would be at least 44.1 KHz or 48.0 KHz respectively (depending on the file type).

Try this... Start a new project so you get the screen for setting up the project. Press on Options and change the audio sample rate to 32000. Then press OK, and load in the files. See if that doesn't help for the audio.

Well, I like your idea. I tried it and I still get the same sound. I did notice that the workspace is 16 bit while my video shows 12 bit on the audio. Maybe that is an issue?

It is a very odd bit depth, but I am not sure that would change the speed of the playback, but would change the clarity yes. It is hard to say since I do not have any of that audio to try and work with in Movie Edit Pro.

All the audio I have is 16 bit and is either 44100 or 48000 in sample rate.

Where did you get these DV & AVI files with that bit depth and sample rate?

The DV was shot with a Sony Digital 8 camera. It was then imported into an AVI file using Pinnacle Studio 12.
