MEP 17+ - can it read a 2d video and convert it to 3d?

After reading lots of reviews and comments on the web, I thought that MEP17+ would turn my old 2D videos into 3D videos.  Movie studios do this, and Starwars will be coverted to 3D over the next several years.

Now that I have 17+, I don't see anything that makes me believe it can do this.  I see where I can get a 2D still and move it back/forward in the 3D space, but it's still a 2D image.

I was expecting a dialog window where I could identify the closest point, further points, or whatever the pgm needed to separate scene elements into the 3D space.

Can this be done?  If not, then I just wasted my money upgrading from 15+.

It's more of a faux 3D.  It would take some real complex software to 'look' at an image and decide what is foreground and what is background.

Add your video to the timeline and select it.  Go to Effects, Stereo3D, Properties.  Adjust the 'Stereo Depth for 2D objects.  This doesn't really turn the video into 3D, but changes the 'depth' where it is within the 3D space.  Add some text to see what it does.
