MEP 17+, chokes computer

I edited a 15 min. video that included image rotation, image stabilization, some music and titles.  It worked fine.  then I loaded the project to make more image rotation and image stabilization changes.  I did several rotations to get the horizon straight, and all of a sudden, Magix started locking up.  I'd let it sit for a long time (10 min), and it would come back, but one or two mouse clicks and it would lock up again.

Task manager shows videodeluxe.exe taking about 50 pct. of the CPU (Dell XPS720, Win7-32, 4GBmem, 768mb Nvidia card.

I suspect that some setting I made during my edits is causing Magix to spin its wheels, leak memory, or something.

Any ideas on what I can try?  I don't want to start again from scratch, mainly 'cause I'd probably end up in the same situation.

I found another person with a similar issue:

http://www.magix.info/uk/video-deluxe-17-problemi-memoria-e-cpu.forum.505434.html

They report MEP using 50 percent processor even when idle.  I'm showing the same.

I should mention that my CPU is a dual-core Intel Core 2 duo.

Make sure you have the latest patch installed.

Go to menu help->Online Updates.

Good suggestion, JonnyO.  I am up to date, just verified in "help/online update."

More on my situation: After several hours of making a click and waiting for it to take, I managed to move some items so that instead of taking 4 tracks, the project now takes 3 tracks.  I think something in my moving items around changed what Magix was seeing.  Now I'm able to do work on the project again,  but it still hangs at times.  This is a small project, only about 8 min long.  It should not be taxing Magix's ability to handle the items.

I checked task manager now that I'm in a state where I can talk to Magix.  It is showing 0 percent.  When it is stuck, it seems to always show 50 percent.
