Missing Files on new instal?

Couldbeclearer wrote on 8/20/2011, 10:13 AM

I have recently installed MEP 15 plus on my new computer, but am unable to read the files brought over on my external drive that I used on my old computer. I have tried burning copies, backups, and various ways of copying and renaming projects. A message comes up telling me that the file isn't in it's location ( which I presume is about proxy files).

Any ideas? I have managed to copy a project from my old computer but a few days later when saving it reverted to a missing file scenario.

Thanks

M.

Hi

Assuming you have all your files in one folder - what should happen when loading the project is you get a dialog box open saying the files are not in the location specified.  At the bottom of the dialog will be some buttons, you select the Folder button and point MEP to the new folder containing the files - see image (this is from MEP17), after doing this a couple of times MEP should remember this and then load the rest of the files.

Note if the files are scattered over several different folders then they all must be copied from the external drive.

Also make sure you are copying the files from the external drive to their new location and not creating shortcuts in the new location which point to the files on the ext hard drive.

When you save the project the new file location should be stored.

If this is not the dialog message you are getting can you post an image of what you are getting.

Hi

After changing the paths and using Save As to save the project with a different name, does loading the 'new' project also give the path error?

When you copied the files from the ext hard drive - did you copy any .hdp and/or  .h0 files?

If so delete them from the new folder location and then reload the project, they will be recreated if needed.
