monitor play button does not work

I have draft edited a movie and burned a disc without a problem. However during the final edit the monitor play button stopped working. I have carried out the following actions without success:

Deleted Magix Edit Pro 17 plus HD and reinstalled

Deleted the original movie download and downloaded it again

The following functions relating to playback do work:

Key J - reverse playback

Key J - stops playtback

Key l - forward playback

Toggle switch - forward and reverse playback

Spacebar stops but does not start playback

The movie was downloaded in AVCHD mode from a Panasonic HDC TM 700 camera

The PC is a Dell Inspiron with 5i processor and Windows 7 64 bit

My next move will be to uninstall all programs, scrub the HD and use the windows backup disc and reinstall Movie Edit Pro on its own

Before I take this drastic step I should be grateful for any better solutions

Hi

With MEP closed, search for and delete the videodeluxe.ini file on your system drive including hidden folders - depending on how you installed MEP it could be in one of several locations, if you find more than one delete them.  Restart MEP and everything should be back to normal, note you will have to reset the file locations if you have changed them from the defaults.
