Movie Sudio 2025 developed a strange behaviour

MS2025 is starting to annoy me. For the past couple of weeks or so I've been editing some of my nieces GoPro MOVs (I think - Cineform anyway) videos. This has been going well with no real hassle except for some stange reason occasionally after a cut edit the following section develops black frames which disappear when I change the display GPU from the Nvidia 460 to the UHD 770. The black frames then don't reappear even if I change back to the Nvidia 460.

That aside when I've finished, MS2025 closes without a noticeable hitch but I have noticed that the Magix QTM Reader doesn't close. Sometimes during the day I can have 3 or 4 QTMs running if I forget to manually stop them.

That in itself isn't causing my annoyance though.

What is annoying is that MS 2025 has starting randomly restarting after closure. It can be up to two minutes after exiting, often when I'm using Microsoft office (I think that's just coincidence). This implies to me that MS hasn't closed properly but there is no crash popup on loading and the project I'd been working on loads normally.

I thought at first it was because of the MOV's but it happens (not so often though) with MPGs and MP4s but oddly not with AVI's

If I was a conspiracy buff, I'd think that Magix had spiked my version of MS2025 when it phones home after loading as they send me on average 4 emails a week imploring me to buy MS2026 Ultimate. The latest one says how much they're missing me. Aaah, how sweet. They don't seem to realise that if I wasn't interested when they offered it to me for £59.99 I'm certainly not interested when they offer it to me for £79.99.

Sorry, I've strayed from the point.

Today when I was closing a couple of Magis QTM readers in Task Manager I noticed that a Magix entry was missing, I can't remember the the name of it but it's a long name in German with, I think, a black and white icon - something to do with file finding or sorting or something like that (simlar to the older MEP versions Firebird?). How and why this file has disappeared is anybody's guess. Another conspiracy theory spike? Sorry😕🙂

Now the question. Is this file important?

And why has MS2025 started to randomly restart? I know that's two questions but I'm on a roll.

What does a MediaInfo analysis give on one of these files?

GoPros do not encode in the Cineform encoding format, have the videos been through a video converter?

What change recently occurred on the PC, eg Windows update, updated RTX 4060 driver etc?

If you are on the latest driver 581.57, it has been reported to have some issues with video, or you are on much older drivers, can you roll back, or update to, 581.42 ? These are the Game Ready Drivers I have installed, and they appear to be very stable.

The restarting is often caused by a background process still running and cannot be closed due to a file or files being locked (?), in this case the QTM reader, do you have Quicktime installed?

As I said at the beginning of the post "I think" it was GoPro. She was unsure as it was a few years ago and used a borrowed recorder from a friend when she went out to the wilds of Australia - for fun apparently 😇 (sorry Al). The only thing I know is the codec is Cineform.

In light of you saying about GoPro not recording in Cineform, I beginning to wonder if they have been reprocessed at some time by well meaning interferer 😏. I assume that most other portable video recorders don't record in Cineform either.

Windows update

Aah, good point. Update to Windows 11 25H2 a couple of weeks ago💡, hmm.

can you roll back, ......... to, 581.42 ?

I am on Game Ready 581.57 but this has been happening for the past couple of weeks or so when the driver was 581.42

Yes, the minumum required.

I think more "playing" is required.

Just out of curiosity, that file that isn't loading anymore, the long German name, something to do with Magix searching. library or something. Do you know the one I mean? I need to check on the system to see if it's there. If it isn't that would oviously explain why it's not loading.

In the meantime a rollback of Windows may be in the offing.

Afraid not, I did some quick searching of what I think the file could have been however they all appear to be in English, it is possible that this is an error message which has not been translated correctly.

Did this force you to create/login with a Microsoft account and activate One Drive? As this is, at the moment, an optional update, I am holding off updating to 25H2.

No it isn't, so it could have been re-encoded. I think I'll try re-encoding it myself with a different codec myself.

The file with the german name is elluding me. I remember it being in the task manager while MS2025 was loaded

I had no choice about the update to Windows 25H2 but I was surprised how small the update was. After looking into it, it appears to have been a "switch on" for various features that have been downloaded in previous updates - one of the big switch ons is the AI assistant.

A lot of the new features I didn't want so I disabled what I could and uninstalled what I could. May be I went a step too far. I did toy with the idea of rolling back windows but the same update would only automatically install again.

I try re-enabling some of the features on by one to see if the problem improves, or maybe I'll just live with it.

Looking through my downloads I notice that for some reason I have both Studio and Game ready driver installers. Im not sure now which I have installed; I'll look at that later.

ps - I've just noticed that there is already a 25H2 patch - "KB5070773 is an emergency update for Windows 11 that fixes a bug in the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) caused by a previous update."

I'll see what happens.

Greetings John,

I've installed the Emergency Windows Update (KB5070773) (26200.6901) which ostensibly is to fix a problem with no USB in Windows recovery mode.

After an hour of editing with the Cineform clip there have been no black frames and no automatic reboots after exiting MS 4 times, so it seems that something else is in the Windows update to fix the previous Windows update of a couple of weeks ago - if you see what I mean 😊.

The Magix QTM Reader still doesn't close with the main program, but as it's the first time i've edited MOV's I assume that's the way it is.

So the problem seems to be more or less sorted and I hope Microsoft will pull the original 25H2 update and offer the updated one.

Hi Andy.

I'm still stubbornly on Win 10 and can tell you the Magix QTM Reader has never closed and another opened when the program is restarted until my machine has been shut down. I've had as many as seven instances when I've bothered to look. It opens regardless of using mov files or not on my machine. I only use mp4.

Thanks for the QTM confirmation. I'd not spotted it before this problem arose and yes, it does open even without opening a project. Well, well, well. You learn something new every day, not always something interesting but ... 🙂

Just out of curiosity, have you seen that German sounding file that opens in the Task Manager when MS loads? I'm determined to somehow find out what it is (was). Someone else somewhere in the World must have seen it.

No, never seen that in Task Manager but then I normally use Task Manager to keep an eye on drives, CPU, GPU etc in the Performance tab. I only switch to Processes if I have a problem.

I found this online.

MxQtmReader.exe is an internal component of Magix Video Deluxe and is used to import and process certain media files. You can find this file at the following location: C:\ Program Files \ MAGIX \ Video Deluxe version \ ImportPlugins \ MxQtmReader.exe
