MP4 Codec Problems with Upgrade Version

RichYard wrote on 9/13/2020, 1:38 PM

I posted on this forum a couple of days ago problems I was having after upgrading to Movie Edit Pro Plus (Ver 20.0.1.65. My earlier version was working perfectly besides a problem with “Takes” not working – hence the temptation to upgrade.

At the time I was working on a project consisting of a number of MP4 video clips and on opening this project in the latest version, I noticed that scene recognition and Mercalli Stabilisation was not working.

After uninstalling and re-installing I have narrowed the problem down – when working with AVI or Mpeg2 files everything seems to work, but when  MP4 files were used they would not open or even display as thumbnails. I exported a test Mpeg2 clip as a MP4 and could not open it. (I can hear the sound though)

The problem seems to be related to the MP4 codec. I activated it and in File>Settings>Program>Import Export have tried both the Default and Main Concept settings with no luck.

How do I get the Movie Edit Pro Plus to load and save MP4 files?

Hi.

Are these files coming from a mobile phone or new camera?

If so it may be useful to have the file information from one of the non working files using MediaInfo or put a file we can look at in a Dropbox folder.

Hi

Please do not keep duplicating your posts on the same issue - I have now hidden your first comment regarding the MP4 issue in your other topic here, as you have provided more information in this the third post on the issue.

Please stop uninstalling/installing the program - this is just wasting your time, if you are not cleaning up all the files that MEP creates on first run that the uninstaller cannot remove as it knows nothing about them.

MP4 is not a video file format, it is a container file format and can hold video and audio streams encoded in one of many formats.

As @CubeAce has requested we need MediaInfo analysis, from the Text view, of one of the files that causes the issue.

My apologies , but I was not sure what the problem was or how to describe it - it has now been solved - changing the "Import/Export" tab and unchecking "Hardware acceleration for playback if possible" worked - you may hide/delete all my posts if you wish. Thanks for your assistance.

@RichYard

Hi

Thanks for coming back with your solution. It will help others.

The solution is the usual one for a computer which has an AMD processor or an Intel processor without an integrated graphics chip, with a Nvidia or AMD graphics card - is this correct?

Thank you John,

I think you are right (not too sure about technical aspects of PC's) but I have a Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600 [Display adapter] and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 [Display adapter]. But pleased to say all working well now. Richard
