Multi core for Pro 16

I've spent the requisite hours looking for this. What use does Movie Edit Pro 16 make of multi-core processors and/or hyper threading? I'm thinking of building a system for this program. I would choose either between an i7 2600 series or an AMD 1100 six core processor; but will the Magix program make full use of either of these cpus?

It would appear that an i5 2500 and MoBo will set me back about $300 and right now an 8 core buldoze with MoBo is $200 at Microcenter. Some of the chat boards and Toms hardware suggest that the 8150 comes close to the i6 2600 when it comes to video and apps that can use all the cores. If MEP 16 can use the cores, then it might be the most bang for the buck to go AMD?

Goldbirdd,

Sorry I cant answer your question about MEP16 but I'd seriously recommend if you are going for a new high spec system that you make an additional investment in version 17+. The info from Magix claims that it is way faster than earlier versions making better use of resources.

The list of system requirements http://www.magix.com/us/movie-edit-pro/plus/system-requirements/ suggest either Intel or AMD in general, but for AVCHD/HD work they only list Intel, with Core i7 recommended.

Carl

Hi

MEP17+Hd will use as many cores as required - an Intel i5 or i7 quad with 16GB RAM and Windows 7 64 bit should have more than enough power- no point in using a 32 bit OS as it will only recognise just over 3Gb of RAM.

I run an Intel Q8300 quad core 2,5Ghz processor 4Gb RAM and Windows 7 64 bit, two hard drives - one for OS and software the other for all the video files and temp files for MEP, and I get reasonable performance editing multi movie AVCHD videos.

AMD are well behind Intel for video editing performance and are not mentioned in the hardare requirements for MEP.

Rendering is virtually real time for Blu-Ray discs - just takes longer to write them.
