This is normal - MEP remembers the last exported filename and location.  You have to change it.

I have tried to set the output filename but it does not get saved. I am using the Export to Device (Apple IPad) option, pressing 'Settings' and changing the filename but if I continue and then go back and check the filename it has reverted to its original name in these settings , in the latest example a project called 'MyMovieABC' has created a movie '2011-07-16.mp4' which is a name derived from today's date as if it has taken its name from a new project.

If I select 'do not play out in Itunes' this is ignored and when the video has been 'made' it does play in an ITunes player (very slowly), and it has written the movie to ITunes as '2011-07-16.mp4'. I then have to rename the movie to the correct name in Windows Explorer and of course this confuses ITunes so I have to fix the filename in ITunes as well. I have created around 30 movies so far using this method and while the movie editing has been flawless the only problem has been around the naming of the output files and the confusion in ITunes.

Hi

I have tried to export to IPhone and get the same result as you.

It is possible that MEP is following the iPhone file naming system correctly ie only allowing the date format.
