Random crashes with Error in module "MX3d_PresentationLayer_x64.dll"

simmiv wrote on 3/28/2021, 2:11 AM

In the last few weeks, when exporting my projects I get this error during the export.

It occurs at random times during the export. First when it occurred I was using the version of Magix Video Pro X previous patch level to the current i.e. (Version 18.0.1.95 (UDP3)). At the time I upgraded the driver for the Intel graphics card (HD Graphics 4600), but there is no upgrade for the AMD Radeon R9 200 series card I have. I also upgraded to the latest patch level and rebooted my Windows 10 desktop. After that, suddenly I could export the video file without it crashing.

I'm now working on a follow up video, so I used the previous file and deleted all the contents except the intro and end bit's. Once edited I tried the export it yesterday and voila! it crashed again with this error. The things I've tried are: disable the hardware acceleration, not use the GPU for effects during export, tried the "Main Concept" codec instead of the default one. Non of that has worked. Basically when I try to export this project to Mpeg-4 it crashes at various time's.

All the video clips are from two Android mobile phones i.e. Samsung Galaxy S9+ and Samsung Galaxy 20+. They are saved as *.mp4 files on the phones. I've not had any problems with them before. The media profile is as follows:

As I was wanting to export the project and get it out, I ended up exporting it as an AVI file and then used Handbrake to convert to MP4. That seemed to work ok.

Any other thoughts before I raise a support ticket to Magix on this?

Rgds,

Hi

. . . . AMD Radeon R9 200 . . . .video clips are from two Android mobile phones . . . .

I suspect you may have 2 issues here.

  1. The bigger issue is the video is Variable frame rate (VFR). MEP and many other video editors do not like VFR video.

The video needs converting to Constant Frame Rate - this can be doe using a video converter eg Handbrake.

Then use the converted clips to replace the originals in the project and try exporting using the converted clips.

  2. Have you changed the graphics card in your PC?

From a previous post you had an  AMD Radeon HD5770. If you have changed the card did you remove the drivers for the old card?

Try removing the R9 graphics card and export again using just the Intel integrated GPU.

If that crash still occurs after testing the above - try exporting again and watch the Movie time in the the export dialog and note the value when the crash occurs.

What is on the timeline at the Movie time value noted ?

Hi John,

.... The bigger issue is the video is Variable frame rate

I was not aware of this issue with VFR. To date I've created and uploaded 5 projects on youtube.. Project 1 and 2 only used the Samsung S9+ footage and exported fine.. Project 3 used a mix of S9+ and S20+ and exported fine.. Then project 4 used S9+, S20+ and Gopro footage with CFR. It then crashed and after I did a few things exported fine..

Project 5 is similar to project 4 with a mixture of S9+, S20+ and Gopro footage.. It has always crashed every time I try to export it.. I tried again to load and export project 4 and it exported fine again!

...Have you changed the graphics card in your PC?

Yes I did that back in July last year.. I did remove all the drivers for the old AMD card and then clean booted with only the Intel HD 4600 card.. Once I was happy I then installed the R9 card and installed it's drivers and it's been fine since.. I'll see if disabling it or removing it makes any change..

..What is on the timeline at the Movie time value noted

The first Crash it's 19:56:00.. The timeline has just switched from the first gopro footage to a clip from S9+..

The second Crash is 20:54:14.. The timeline has just switched from S9+ footage to S20+ footage..

The third Crash is 22:47:40.. The timeline is in the middle of a long clip from the S20+..

I'll also try to export without the gopro footage!

Hi

The common element in the first 2 crashes is the switch from/to the Samsung video, the third crash I would suspect that there is a large change in framerate at the point where the crash occurs - I would try the conversion to CFR to see if this fixes the problem.
