I am looking for some help regarding screen capturing/screen recording.

I am not all that familiar with screen capturing as I have had very little experience in it, so any help would be much appreciated.

To put it simply, I would like to screen record my TV screen/BD Recorder, by connecting a laptop to either the screen or the recorder, and using a capture card to do the capturing. If this works then I am hoping to record a small area of the screen...

My question is what capture software would you recommend I use for this? I'm guessing something like OBS Studio? And also, will I be able to retain quality by recording a small portion of the screen by adjusting the bitrate, etc?

The native resolution of the TV screen I'd be using is 1366x768.
