Sony MP2 import into Magix Movie Edit Pro 18

Gwhizzer wrote on 9/21/2011, 6:17 PM

When I import a MPEG2 from my sony camera into Magix Movie Edit Pro 18, there are about 5 minutes at the end of the movie that show a blank screen - but the sound can still be heard.

In previous versions I got around this by right clicking on the movie and selecting "Create New Frame Table".  After doing this you can see the frames being recalculated and then you can see all of the movie to the very end - no more blank picture.

But with version 18, I do the same thing but nothing changes, you still have the blank footage at the end of the movie.

Funny thing is, if I import the files into version 17, recreate the frame table and save the project (MVP file) and then open the MVP project file in version 18 the movies all appear fine.

Can any one help with importing these files into 18.  I don't want to have to use version 17 to import and save and the version 18 to edit.

Hi,

perhaps it will be better to use your SONY Picture Motion Browser to import the files from your camera. Later on use Magix Movie Edit Pro 18.

I use Sony PMB successfully.

Good luck - Die Wisentanixe

Hi there,

Sorry, I wasn't too clear with my first description - I do use Sony Picture Motion Browser to import the files from the camera.  I then have the movie files stored on my hard drive and from there import it into Magix Movie Edit Pro.

I have always had issues with MPEG2 files that came from the Sony Camera and have read that others with Sony camera's appear to have similar issues.  So it appears Magix has an issue with whatever format of MEG2 Sony use.

I have only ever had this issue from when Magix changed how files import into their movie edit pro software.  In version 2004 and Version 10 it use to take a while to import as it use to create the frame table and wave form.  But in later versions they changed it and the files import quickly, BUT they miss important steps - after this change to their software I have always had to right click on the movie file to create the frame table and instantly my movie file would be fixed, no blank frames at the end - but now with version 18, even that doesn't fix it.

I have tried with other formats and they import fine, it's just this MPEG2 from the Sony cameras that is having issues.

Hi

1.   Make sure you have this setting checked in the Program Settings (this is from v17) - I used to have this problem with my old Sony camera

2.  Which camera do you have?

1. I tried adding this setting in version 18 and still no good.  Works in version 17 fine.  But even without that setting selected that's the first thing I did was to manually select to create new frame table by right-clicking on the movie itself.  You can see it recalulating the frames but still no good.  Another thing I discovered was if you played the movie from the start all the way through it would work and show the whole movie - but if you moved the red cursor to the middle of the movie or anywhere else for that matter, it would show the blank frames and also sound would become out of sync and the picture would jump every couple of seconds.  It appears it can't catch up or refresh correctly for my movie format

2. The camera I have is a Sony HDR-SR1E

Hi

Try copying the video files direct from your cameras HDD to your computer using Windows Explorer then add them to the timeline in MEP and see what happens.  You should not need to use PMB.

Also - should have asked first time - what is your computer spec and do you have any other codec packs installed eg KLite etc?

Hi, I found the answer. I have been in contact with Magix support about this and they have confirmed that there are issues with the MPEG reader in the latest version.  Their developers are working on a solution that will hopefully be released in an update soon to fix the problem.

So in the meantime I will have to convert it to get it to work or run it in version 17 and save it as an MVP and then open the MVP inside of version 18.

Thanks for all your help of this anyway.  I tried all your suggestions but none of them worked and I guess it's because of the issue with the software.
