Richard77,

First, go to 'File' >> 'Program settings' >> 'Video/Audio' tab and make sure 'Extract sound from videos' is ticked. If it is, then I can only guess that there is some problem with the film format. What's the source of you film? Does it play with sound on your computer with say Windows Media player?

Regards,

Carl

Hi Carl

Thanks for prompt response. Yes the correct box is ticked to import sound. I get sound for the first 10 seconds and then nothing. The waveform is blank. I have tried 2 disks - DVD finalised and DVD RAM.

Both DVDs play in Cyberlink PowerDVD without problem but the format is not recognised by Windows Media Player (extension not recognised by WMP) if I take the option to try they both play but only for about 10 seconds.

I have succesfully (in the past) transferred a lot of videos and created movie with slide shows (from my video camera to the hard disk on my DVD player - where I carry out basic editing - and then copy them to disk for uploading via my PC to Magix) for our PTA without this problem. Last week I had a fatal crash and have had to rebuild my PC from scratch and to add to the agony my back-up disk was not accepted by my newly rebuilt PC so everything has been loaded from originals. S I am starting with a completely blank set of rules as far as Magis is concerned.

kind regards

If Windows Media Player can't read your files properly it sounds like you DVD player (recorder?) is using a special codec not available to other programs. Perhaps your old computer setup had a compatible codec but your rebuild doesn't. eg At some time you installed something that loaded the codec (which remained even if you no longer used that program). I know some users have problems with .mov files until they install Quicktime player.

I wonder why you go through DVD player HD at all, why not import directly from camera to Magix?

Hi Carl

Thanks for the update. I installed a bunch of Codecs today and still had no luck but on further investigation found a possible solution on the Magix Q&A site

Import the file - edit mode - create frame table (new) - close (don't save) open new project - import data and hey presto got my sound...!

I only go through the DVD player as it is so much quicker loading from the camera to my DVD player hard disk and then taking out most of the rubbish from the comfort of an easy chair.

Looking back at my notes from when I had the e-version I found some correspondence suggesting loading certain Codecs so that obviously helped.

I really appreciate your support in this

kind regards

Richard
