TV cropping visible in DVD menu, scene previews

yeahwow wrote on 9/7/2011, 3:28 PM

I have found out that the TV cropping setting of 10% is right for me (which is the default). I now have that when I make a DVD, which works very nice for playing my videos, BUT this setting is also applied in the scene-preview in my DVD menu, which is unwanted, because now there is a black border around the scene preview. I have thought about making my own dvd-menu template, but have not found the way to do this.

Can anyone help me with this? I tnink it is rather strange to apply the TV cropping setting to scene previews in the DVD menu's and to me it looks like a bug, but maybe I am wrong and I am doing something wrong...

Or... Maybe you can point me in the right direction to create my own dvd-menu template, so I can create something that works.

There has been no answer to this, but I have found out some new things lately, so I will answer myself in case somebody has this same problem.  ;-)

The TV cropping in the scene preview of the DVD menu looks like a bug. A workaround is (in stead of selecting a scene from the movie with MEP) cutting/pasting the frame from a player to an image editor (like photoshop) and selecting that as the button background.

The question about making DVD menu templates has the follonwing answer: Make your template, based on whatever is there, When you are editing the menu, right click in the menu and select "save in last template". Next time you can select a template from the list of last templates. I just found out and need to check if this really works, but it seems like a way to go.

I am really open to better suggestions as I would like to be able to manage DVD menu templates in a more sophisticated way.

Hi yeahwow

I think the lack of response from users is because we find it difficult to reproduce the problem, however I feel that the 'cropping' in the DVD menu is (IIRC) related to the original cropping you were getting on the timeline.

Your solution in this case would appear to be the best way to go - ie isolate the image from the movie- you could try exporting from the timeline a single frame as an image and then edit this externally if necessary.

John.

Hi Lesley,

Unless I'm mistaken, you're discussing the same issue here:

The last post in that thread was my suggestion that more details would help us to help you.
