Upgrade or NOt ?

John-Dent wrote on 7/8/2025, 8:39 AM

I hope this message finds you well.

I am writing to inquire about the upgrade options and benefits available after recently purchasing both MAGIX Movie Studio Suite 2025 and MAGIX Video Pro X16. I’ve been enjoying the features and performance of both programs and appreciate the creative flexibility they offer.

However, I’ve noticed that newer versions may be available, and I’d like to understand whether upgrading would provide significant advantages—especially considering my recent investment in the current versions.

Could you please clarify the following:

Are there substantial feature improvements or performance enhancements in the newer versions that would justify an upgrade?

Is there a loyalty or discounted upgrade path available for customers who have recently purchased the 2025 Suite and Video Pro X16?

Would upgrading now affect my current licenses or access to the software I’ve already purchased?

I’d appreciate any guidance you can provide to help me make an informed decision.

Thank you for your time and support.

It looks like new features are AI style transfer and AI Colorize. If you don't need this, there isn't any need to upgrade.

Upgrades are price reduced full versions. Usually, you'll keep your old versions and the new ones are added automatically to your customer account. But it might not be possible to install both version 2025 and 2026 on the same computer. At least to my knowledge it wasn't possible in the past couple of versions. You always had to uninstall the previous version first.

It isn't possible, at least with a previous "upgrade" program installed. I had MMS 2025 (an upgrade form a previous version) installed and the upgrade to VDL 2026 removed MMS 2025 as part of the installation process for VDL 2026.

All my previously installed third-party effects still in place.

The performance has not changed and I haven't spotted any "substantial feature improvements"; as SP notes, it seems that most of the differences are the AI features which I haven't used.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

@John-Dent @SP. These are already in MMS 2025, they're not new to Video deluxe 2026.

Also it says - 'Boris FX BCC Chroma Key Studio - New' - I have Boris Continuum so I can't check but I'm pretty sure that isn't new either,, could be wrong..

@John-Dent

Hi,

MAGIX Movie Studio Suite 2025 and MAGIX Video Pro X16 are the same program but Video Pro X (VPX) has more features. If you have VPX, you definitely do not need Movie Studio or the new re-renamed Video DeLuxe 2026 (if you get VPX17).

VPX17 will overwrite VPX16 - except for the VideoContent which stays the same and doesn't have to be downloaded again.

Gid said "Also it says - 'Boris FX BCC Chroma Key Studio - New'.I have Boris Continuum so I can't check" ...

... I got that with Movie Studio 2025 so not new with VDL 2026. I got Mercalli Pro 6 with Photostory I think. I know it was a good deal. If you buy a 2026 version just for that it's worth it.

I don't understand how to use Boris though. Come to that I don't understand Vitascene either. And I don't use subtitles, karaoke or otherwise.

I'm still waiting to hear from VDL2026 users whether any of the bugs from way back or that were introduced with MS2025 have been "cured".

So far I've not seen anything to make me want to change; maybe a couple of the Ultimate Prodad's are interesting but even those I'me sure I can live without for a while.

Maybe VDL 2027 will appeal.
