If you have both Camera and Effects LUTs then create 2 subfolders LUTCamera and LUTEffect and put the .cube Luts in the appropriate folder. I create seperate subfolders for Camera LUTs by camera.
IN VDL the LUTS wiil appear in the Templates tab, Movie Looks option

I seem to be following all of your instructions properly but my luts are still not appearing under "Movie looks" even after restarting the program.
Works for me. Remember, Magix reuses the same Video Content folders from one version to the other so as not to have to download and install the additional content for each version. There are 3 flavours - VPX, MEP Plus, MEP Premium, where MEP could be something else, like Movie Studio xxxx if an installation of Movie Studio was the first time you installed the program.
I have:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Videocontent\Movie Edit Pro Plus\VideoEffects\LUTPresets
which is for VDL Plus 2026. The program found this during installation and used it.
And for Premium (Movie Studio Premium 2025, I have:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Videocontent\Movie Edit Pro Premium\VideoEffects\LUTPresets
@ImTerribleAtThis clearly has a new install. I like you, and John CB, have the upgrade path:-
. . . . Are these mandatory? . . . .
For the LUTCamera and LUTEffect, well you could throw everything into one folder, however, and especially for Camera LUTs, if you have various sources video and images, or different effects LUTs, good organisation becomes a necessity.
The LUT does work if it is inside either LUTCamera or LUTEffect.
Looks like the the Cube file must be in a subfolder of LUTCamera or LUTEffect folders for the LUT to be recognised and loaded into Movie looks, however there is something odd with that LUT, the name is not being picked up correctly.
No joy, Lads. I even fired up my old PC with VPX 12 on it in case VPX influenced the access. I also confirmed the Magix LUT folder payout in VPX. Movie Studio on that PC didn't show any LUTs regardless of where I put the LUT folders.
This LUT thing has raised it's head a few times over the years and versions (or so it seems) and each time i've been fired up to install them by following directions to the letter and each time I've failed miserably with nothing to see under Templates.
I don't know why but to be honest I don't think I've missed them but then again, not really knowing what they are or what they do I could be wrong 😱
Looking at the migration of effects that occurred when I upgraded from MMS 2025 to VDL 2026, I see that the folder:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Videocontent\Movie Edit Pro Premium\UserVideoEffects\
has a copy of my LUTs there, however they appear not to be used, if I moved them out and it makes no difference, as a crosscheck when I remove the LUT in the VideoEffects folder they are not avaiiable.
Try putting the LUTPresets folder into the UserVideoEffects folder.
LUTS are a way of remapping the colours in an image or video, for specific colour effects, and/or colour correction for example for video shot in S-Log, Cine-D etc which are used to get a wider colour/dynamic range.
The example below in the left image is the original, the right image has had a LUT applied which alters the colours to match, in this example a Kodak film base, this from VPX as you can the before/after in the 2 monitors.
I've been looking at this LUTs thing with a bit more enthusiasm and I've found references in the Registry to LUTPresets in Photostory.
I purchased Photostory a few years ago for the Boris plugin being offered. I loaded in PS just to see what it was like but installed it almost straightaway - obviously not thoroughly as I found the PS presets in the Common Files folder which I'd not noticed before.
So this raises a bigger question, how to bulk change the Registry (there appears to be 16+ entries) to read MS2025 not Photostory?
I'm considering reinstalling Photostory to see if MS will detect that installation.
. . . . So this raises a bigger question, how to bulk change the Registry (there appears to be 16+ entries) to read MS2025 not Photostory? . . . Curiousity could be my undoing. . . .
I scanned my registry for the Photostory LUTPreset references, they number nearer 100 entries with only the default extra content installed.
My advice is to stay away from trying to add/edit registry entries, to quote the old Firefox advanced settings warning: Here be dragons!.
Nearer 100? You must have been bored counting all those ,I gave up looking after the 16: I'm glad I didn't carry on.
Anyway,if the "correct" procedure of adding LUTs doesn't work for you then this may be of interest.
After an afternoon of playing I've think I have a working solution and it revolves around "ias_category_assignment.ini" in C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Videocontent\Movie Edit Pro Premium (this is for MS2025 but it's probably the same for other releases).
I'm using the Photostory LUTs that are in folders with icons etc. I don't have any other but I assume that downloaded LUTs are similar.
Make a copy of ias_category_assignment.ini for (hopefully) obvious reasons
Put your LUTs Folders in the VideoEffects folder NOT in LUTPresets - this is important
The Photostory LUTs end with CMX
Open ias_category_assignment.ini in Notepad and find # MovieLooks / Filmlook = 9 and add your LUTs (as in this image) making sure that "category" has the same number as MovieLooks / Filmlook = 9
Scroll up the list in Notepad and add yout LUT name to the list remembering to end each name with a semi-colon
Click save
Open MS2025 (or whatever version you have) and under Templates you should see your LUTs
It's not as complicated as it sounds, but you always have you otiginal copy of the file to fall back on if it goes **** up.

WHOOPS looks like the images aren't uploading. I try again later
If a user does not feel confident following your method, there is a another method which does not care where the LUTs are located.
Put the LUTs in any folder, then in the program browse to the folder, right click the folder name and select 'Create Link to folder' or 'Folder as link'. Works for PS 2026, VDL 2026, and VPX 17.
I linked PS to the VDL LUTs as shown below, to use, though as I said above they can be located anywhere inside the Documents folder. To use a LUT either use 'drag n drop', to put the LUT onto the selected video/image on the timeline.
Yep, the Image upload fails even though I see they are uploaded and get a preview!
