@Skyline_UK

Hi

. . . . the new version hangs everytime I load clips . . . My PC should be powerful enough. . . .

Unfortunately this is not so, the i9-9940X has no integrated iGPU which VDL could use, and the GT 1030 does not support NVENC which is a requirement for VDL to be able to use a Nvidia GPU.

This means all decoding, processing and encoding of video is being done by the CPU and depending on the imported video encoding format and resolution, eg FullHD (1920 x 1080) HEVC/h.265 encoded, or 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) encoded h.264 (AVC) or h.265/HEVC, the system, despite the CPU having 14 cores, may be overloaded.

To determine if the video is the cause of the issue, download and install MediaInfo and analyse one of the clips and post the results, see this tutorial on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip for all the data required.

You can re-install the older version you previously had, the installer should be available to download in your account at magix.com under My Products, account login icon is top right of the home page, and also ask for a refund if you are still within the returns grace period.

How much free space is there on your C: drive and do you have a second hard drive installed?

Thanks. I'm not technically au fait with the first part, but I glean from it that my system may not be man enough in terms of graphics... 😕

My PC was built for audio, to use in my home recording studio, so I didn't opt for a higher spec graphics card installed, just one that suits auido applications such as DAWs, plugins, etc.

I did try uninstalling and reinstalling my older vision, but sadly it wouldn't now work.

I did update the driver Nvidea driver to one dated Nov 2025, the old one being the original that came with the card, so about 3/4 years old. I'm now testing to see if that helps.

Free space on C: is '397GB of 952GBb' and there are two internal drives, '189 free of 952' and '144 free of 931'

That is most likely the crux of your problem. As such, it is highly unlikely that simply updating your NVidia drivers will substantially help. As @johnebaker writes, your NVidia GPU lacks certain facilities which would help to allow smoother playback! And those facilities cannot be added to it, sorry.

But please also follow John's advice re obtaining the MediaInfo data on your video files; with that data posted here it may be that one or other of us might be able to offer some advice on how to at least "improve" the performance of your computer when editing video.
