Washed out colors from an OBS Studio recording

I've recently bought Magix Movie Studio 2025 and while I am able to edit most of the videos, when editing videos that are HDR, they appear washed out. I tried both HEVC and AV1 recording and the videos appear to be washed out. Not sure what to do so I can properly edit them.

OBS Studio is set up to use Rec.2100 PQ, Full Range, with the color format of P010(10-bit, 4:2:0).

Hi

. . . . HDR, they appear washed out . . . .

They do, to see the colours correctly requires a HDR monitor, and graphics card which supports the Rec.2100 PQ colour space, these requirements also applies to the final display device(s) if you export to a format video format that supports Rec.2100 colour space .

Usually, video utilises the BT 709 colour space.

For existing recordings, to correct this you need a Rec 2100 to BT 709 (HD colour space) LUT, a colour correction 'effect' and has a file extension of .cube file, there are many available on the Internet - ensure you get a 3D cube not a 2D cube, and test to see which is best for you.

I use many LUTs and they are put in the follow loccation for Movie Studio to pick them up:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Videocontent\program name-edition\VideoEffects\LUTPresets\LUTCamera

The LUTPreset and LUT Camera folder you may have to create

They will the appear under Template tab, Movie looks as shown below

If you want to avoid the use of LUTs record in the BT 709 colour space, however I find recording in 10 bit HDR gives you more scope for colour adjustment and better colours when converted to BT 709 on export. You can save the colour adjustments as video effects.

Do note that the final viewing device may not accurately repeat what you see on your monitor.
