What's the maximum render resolution for Pro X 12?

I'm looking at Pro X 12 in the Humble Bundle Creative Universe and I'm wondering what the max render resolution is. I've been using VEGAS Pro 16 for a while and it won't let me render ultra high resolutions for VR. I know Pro X 12 says it supports 8k editing but when I researched about potentially upgrading my VEGAS a while back I saw claims that the VEGAS upgrade at the time would edit ultra HD video you already had but it won't actually render it that high.

Hi and welcome to the user to user forums.

Yes it does but make sure you have an nvidia card with at least 4GB of ram and full support for Direct X 12 or it may not work as expected. An i7 seventh generation processor or newer would not go amiss either. 16 to 32 GB of motherboard ram is useful to have as well. 8K video editing is very computer intensive.

I got it and it doesn't actually export what I wanted, it has the same limitation as Vegas of 4096x2160. I wanted to go for 4096x4096 so I could have a top-bottom VR video. Oh well, at least the charity gets a few bucks.

Hi.

4096x4096 is a square video ratio and not a native screen of sensor ratio and would be closer to a 5K resolution.

You can set up any resolution you want when you set a project up if you have the files to support it. The export can also be set manually but you had better be very good at calculating minimum and maximum bit rates as there are no preset ones calculated for you as such a video sensor ratio does not exist and you would end up with a file size of 0 bytes.

The specs for VPX12 do state it will edit 8K video - 8K meaning 7680 x 4320 px.

The limitation of 4096x2160 is because the h.264 maximum level in VPX is 5.2 which does not support a vertical resolution greater than 2160 px.

For higher resolutions you would have to export as HEVC (h.265) which supports higher vertical resolutions - below is a screenshot example of 4320 x 4320 3D Top/Bottom h.265 (HEVC) export from VPX 12 in VLC
