Strictly speaking, you can only save a 'project' in Magix's own file format eg MVD or MVP. They are just information about what resources you've used (clips, images, music), how you've arranged them, and the location of cuts, transitions etc.

The options for export are considerable -- go to 'File' >> 'Export movie' >> 'Video as ...' to see the list.  For simple conversion you load a clip of whatever format you've got and immediately export in another format without making any changes.

Note: Within the export window are some advanced setting to change  things like resolution, quality, bit rate etc. If this stuff worries you just use a pre-set to begin with. Also, though the menu says export movie, it is also the place where you can save a single frame image or a sound track.
