Why does the audio get out of sync

When I load an mpeg file into the MM Edit Pro 11 the audio is off by 2 - 5 seconds at different places in the movie. How do I prevent this, so I can actually edit and burn a DVD. At this point, the program isn't useful, because the sound doesn't match the video.

Right click on the problematic MPEG material and select "Create (new) frame table" - usually that helps to put it all back into sync again.
