Greetings Magix community,

"We're going on a musical journey" ... Words to begin a horse ride I would say to my horse. The horse would not really understand the words but would know by the sound of my voice who I am and by instinct know that I love horses. The ride I am about to take really depends on that 'horse sense', my well being and the success of the ride depends on the special sense that the horse has. What is common to me and the horse is the connection we have and the language that we really share is ... music! ... the rhythm of the steps, much like a dance, and the feeling we share. And to end the journey I will say 'Whoa'!

I have been around horses many times and places and I have occasionally ridden different horse in different places. And what have I learned from those horses ... 'horse sense' ... something that also guides me through my life ;)

I hope you enjoy this musical horse ride and together we can share 'Horse Sense'!

All the best,

Mark ;)

“Horse Sense” unfolds as a free‑form journey, a piece that refuses strict structure in favour of movement, space, and atmosphere. The piano serves as the steady anchor, the one constant presence as various instruments drift in and out like changing scenery on a long ride.

The percussion is unmistakable: a rhythmic gallop that evokes the steady pulse of a horse crossing open ground. Against this, the occasional slide‑guitar phrases introduce a quiet loneliness — the sense of a lone rider moving through a vast, uninhabited landscape. It’s not bleak, but it is solitary, and the music leans into that solitude with confidence.

Two spoken lines, treated with subtle effects, offer lighter touches in an otherwise darker, more introspective piece. They act almost like brief exchanges between rider and horse, or between rider and the land itself — small human moments in a wide, echoing space.

There is ample room here for reflection. The track invites the listener to settle into the rhythm, to let the landscape roll by, to consider whatever thoughts arise on this musical horse ride. And when the vocalist enters near the end, it feels like a gentle signal: the journey is over, time to dismount, time to give the horse a rest.

@Philip-J

Hello Philip,

Thanks again Philip and so much effort in review of this piece deserves some effort in response. Of course the variations and rhythms in this track represent a ride, a journey. "We are going on a cool musical journey ... let's ride!" are the words to begin the journey but the preamble gets us prepared. The rest is left to the imagination of those who will join me. A give it some 'country western twang' thanks to some available Magix loops. One thing to consider is that it is not a song about loneliness or isolation, but of solace. Some of us are more comfortable with that idea but my expression is the beauty of connection and the solace of the journey with the horse that can sense those feelings with me and I can feel the expression of the horse anxious to tell me through the heart of music ... 'I know how you feel' ... how I feel about being human - lol.

Thanks again for your kind words of another musical adventure that I can share ;)

Mark ;)

Hi Mark
Horses are wonderful animals, and you have to treat them with the necessary respect.

I've never ridden a horse.

But I think that a horse can also radiate something calming, especially if you own one that you care for and look after.

You've created a very nice atmosphere for it, which is very fitting for this topic.

Really cool!💯👍👌

Philip-J described your music very well in detail.
It's music that fits the theme perfectly and is very pleasant to listen to.
Well done on the melodies with the different instruments and for those beautiful percussion parts.
Congratulations, my friend, it's a very good and original composition.
Friendly greetings from Pat

Hi Mark, great photo, I remember there was a hospital in USA where it allowed a local ranch to bring in one of their horses into the wards to visit those who were terminally ill with cancer, the patients would cry when the horse rested it's head on their shoulder as if the horse actually sensed it. The horse certainly new of their illness. Yes the music takes us on a ride of the flat plains, endless horizons and peace, just one man and his horse living the moment. Cheers 😊👍🍺🍺🍺🎅🎄

@PATIENT-X

Thank you for your comment, horses do connect with us as do may domestic and even wild animals. The small ranch in my family here has adopted horses and they are well handled and cared for and one of the horses connect very well with me as seen in this song cover image ;)

My best,

Mark ;)
