MP3 Saving in SF 13: very fast, very slow

JoaoBC wrote on 02/11/2019, 20:14

Good morning.

One file .wav, to save in .MP3 format.

Using SOUND.FORGE.Pro.Suite.13.0.0.124 at 64 bits, uses 500 seconds to save.

Using SOUND.FORGE.Pro.Suite.13.0.0.124 at 32 bits, uses only 3 seconds to save.

Bug ?

I would not say it is a 'bug' based on my test.. Encode times normally vary from version to version. 500 seconds is a l o n g time for sure.

My results encoding a one minute (60 sec.) stereo 44,1/16 PCM file to MP3 (44.1kHz, 320kbps, stereo, CBR, highest quality)

0.8 sec. SF Pro 13 (x86)
2.0 sec. SF Pro 13 (x64)
2.0 sec. SF Pro 12 (x64)
2.0 sec. SF Pro 10 (x86)
2.0 sec. Vegas Pro-16 (x64)
1.0 sec. Vegas Pro-9 (x86)
1.0 sec.WinLAME RC3

Hi Rick, thanks for the help.
I did a test:
1) I formatted the computer. New Install of Windows 10 64 bits.
2) I installed SF 13 64 bit.
3) I made a recording in .mp3 -> It was fast.
4) I installed preset manager (presetmngr20k.exe)
5) I installed NRP (Noise_Reduction_Pack_2.0.0.1318_INT_x64_180710.exe)
6) I made a new recording. This time it was slow, very slow.
7) I uninstalled everything (SF, NRP, Presetmngr)
8) Reinstalled SF, again very slow.

Do you have processes and/or plug-ins running or just a straight MP3 encode?
What format is your source file?
What is the duration (length) of the source file?
What exactly are your MP3 encode settings?
"I made a recording in .mp3"....  Does that mean you recorded something live?

Q. Do you have processes and/or plug-ins running or just a straight MP3 encode?
What format is your source file?

A. Only just Soundforge 13

--------------------------------------------

Q. What is the duration (length) of the source file?

A. 3 min 10 sec

------------------------------------------

Q. What exactly are your MP3 encode settings?

A. Stereo, 128, 44.100, High precision.

But in another options, the time for SF 64 bits is ever 10x that SF 32 bits.

----------------------------------------------

Q. "I made a recording in .mp3"....  Does that mean you recorded something live?

A. I tested with a wav-ripped song from the CD.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

But...
What I find weird, any case, anyway, the time to record in .mp3 format is always much longer on the 64 bit platform.
About 10x

I found out when the bug appears:
If I open a .mp3 file and modify a lot, (graphic equalizer, volume ...), it saves normal.
But if I cut (remove) a piece of music, just two seconds, it takes too long to save.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
