New Patch 17.0.2.171

Scenestealer wrote on 29/04/2018, 01:04

There is a new patch for MEP18 with several fixes. Not sure what the changes to licenses for 3rd party modules is about? It will be interesting to see what the changes to Autosave are because it was pretty useless after they changed it last time.

Thanks to Mathias for the notification in News.

Important changes in version 17.0.2.171:

Fixed issue with scanning for OFX plugins resolved (plugins were not shown)

Fixed issue with Audio Cleaning feature

Improved autosave function

Changes to licenses for 3rd party modules

Classic version: Fixed issue with add track function

NeatVideo plugin now functions properly with interlaced footage

NeatVideo plugin again functions properly with radius greater than 0

Image size, position, rotation, or 3D distortion when changed with the selection tool now affects multiple selected objects

Frames in interlaced, exported footage were progressive when color effects had been placed on objects

Transitions were changed to crossfades when the front edge of the transition had been trimmed

Fixed issue with crashes with "Create panorama" when color effects are present on photos

Fixed issue with blurry crawling titles

@Scenestealer

Hi

. . . . Transitions were changed to crossfades when the front edge of the transition had been trimmed . . . .

AFAICS this is still not working - try using a Blinds or Glide transition between 2 objects video, image or both, then trim off a small section of the second object using the Z key - mine reverts to crossfade.

I also had an issue with the patch installer closing MEP and then nothing - no indication that the patch was being installed and MEP did not restart. On restarting MEP version number was updated.

These issues have been reported.

Gentlemen,

I don't have the same problem anymore, but there are other ones. I tried both Blinds and Glide with different combinations.

  1. In mouse mode for all tracks. Neither clip pre-trimmed, added transition, clipped a piece of the right clip using Z at different locations, within the transition zone and to the right of it. No problem, transition still worked.
  2. In mouse mode for all tracks. Right clip pre-trimmed, same process, transition still worked.
  3. In mouse mode for all tracks. Both clips pre-trimmed, same process, transition still worked.
  4. In single track mouse mode. Neither clip pre-trimmed, added transition, clipped a small piece of the right clip within the transition zone, transition still worked but the fade length remained the same.

Note that the transition length stays the same but the right object starts to the right of the fade zone and the blinds start in this zone. Note the location of the playback marker and that the transition is not the same for the audio part, however, in a second test, the length of the audio part became the same length as the video part.

I repeated this test with the clips pre-trimmed and got the same result. The Blinds still worked but the transition zone was longer than the overlap. Did it again, and the zone for audio was correct, but the video still off.

5. There was another anomaly at first a few times that I can't repeat consistently. Upon trimming, the audio of the right object became ungrouped from the video and the transition zone stayed the same or longer for the audio, but the video became shorter. I mention longer because this happened in multi-track mouse mode when trimming to the right of the transition zone. The audio transition became quite long.

Hi

Can not create problem of any sort with Blinds transition trimming, but the last 2 patches .166 and .171 indicated there had been a problem installing after closing the installer which was stuck on 95% odd. The new window which appeared asked if I would like to "Install again" or "restart previous version of program" - no response from the former but program showed new version number on clicking restart option.

Is this what you observed during updating John EB?

Hi Peter

. . . . . Is this what you observed during updating John EB? . . . . .

No - the update downloaded, started, closed MEP then nothing - no window showing update running or confirmation that it had finished installing and MEP did not restart.

Restarting MEP manually no error messages and version number showing it has been updated.

A search for all MEP files modified on the date of the patch installation only shows the following files were updated:

- videodeluxe.exe - version 17.0.2.171

- resource.rcc

and a host of language dll's

Hi John

Have you seen any changes in the program that suggest components have updated then?

Here is a video showing the problem. It happens when you trim within the transition using Z, and in mouse mode for a single track, whether or not the clips have been trimmed. No problem with the other two mouse modes. I can even drag the left transition handle on the video completely to the right to eliminate the transition, but the transition on the audio remains. This happens on both of my computers.

In don't recall having any problem doing the updates with either computer.

I find myself using the Edit and Object Trimmer more and more for fades and transitions.

Hi

@Scenestealer

. . . . Have you seen any changes in the program that suggest components have updated then? ....

Nothing specific to say this or that has changed, the only indication that the update has installed and that some issues I have had, and retested after applying the patch, that work so far are:

  1. Video deluxe version number, in program, and of the videodeluxe.exe file are 17.0.2.171
  2. NeatVideo plugin functions properly with interlaced footage - it would randomly hang for no apparent reason.
  3. Image size, position, rotation, or 3D distortion now works on multiple selected objects.
  4. Creating a panorama no longer crashes MEP when colour effects are present on photos
  5. Blurry crawling titles - previously I had to break long scrolling text ( 40 - 50 lines) into several objects.

Still not working for me are

  1. Transitions changing to crossfades when the front edge of the transition had been trimmed, this is/was not a big issue for me - I usually trim before setting the transition.
  2. The . . . Improved autosave function . . . does not appear to have changed, the program still saves a backup at the set time, even when there has been no activity for a period. previous versions of MEP did not do this - confirmed I just tested MEP 2015 with a loaded project for the last hour with no activity - no bak files.

Hi Gents

Apologies, I thought I had tested the Z key behaviour in all mouse modes but maybe not. Now in single mouse mode it behaves as John CB has demonstrated but not to the point where the audio track appears to have disconnected from the video.

The Blind transition remains in all cases contrary to John EB's experience. Thanks for the additional information John EB - it appears the updates have taken successfully.

All very puzzling that we have different experiences with a minor operation.

Interesting the effect if you place the cursor in the transition without highlighting either clip and press Z - both clips disappear and you are just left with part of the transition.

Any idea what the licensing changes for third party modules is about.

Oops - wrong again! Just noticed you are dragging the fade handle and not the lower handle for extending the clip.

Not sure this is something you would ever do in practice - dragging the transition to an area where there was no more footage.....? Dragging the bottom handle corrects the glitch. Still, the glitch should not be occurring.

Hi Peter,

I've never done this except in testing.

Try pressing on T in the transition zone with nothing selected.

I tried these out in VPX and the same thing happens as in MEP.

Hi

To add more confusion -

Tested MEP on my laptop before and after update with the following results:

  • Neat Video interleaved issue . . . . must be related to the latest version, as installed on my PC - earlier version (4.2.3) on lap top has no issues before or after update.

  • Image size, position, rotation, or 3D distortion issue . . . . fixed after update.

  • Transitions were changed to crossfades issue . . . . no issue before or after update.

  • Crashing on Panorama with colour effect applied . . . . crashed before, fixed after update.

  • Files changed - same as for PC.

The transitions issue I have on my PC works correctly in VPX on the PC !
