I have to confess to being a little confused about what you are wanting to do! You mention using home-made midi objects but then write about creating a new midi object, so can you clarify exactly what you are doing and in which version of MM.
I have the Premium version but I would be very surprised if the free version does not also allow this: you can drag an existing .mid file to an available track on the workscreen and it will open and play.
Also, if I follow your route of
EDIT > OBJECT > CREATE NEW OBJECT > CREATE NEW MIDI OBJECT.
I can create a new object on as many tracks as I wish, I'm certainly not limited to only one object BUT MM does seem to automatically place it on the same track as the one created previously. However, it is a simple matter to drag the new object to whichever track I wish to place it in.
So, please give us more details about exactly what you are wanting to do and what you see on your screen. The spec of your computer may not be directly relevant here but it is always useful to know something about the machine actually being used. This post will show you what information would be really helpful.
Awesome thank you so much for your efficient help.
Setting up my new project, consisting of midi objects is now a breeze. Unfortunately, I cannot hear them. I didn't save much in the way of effects and mixing. They are mute, as a midi file. Any tips on settings of the track before I export them to audio temp file? So that I get sound.
All the FX are gone , which was expected, and volume control is isn't compatible anymore. Sheesh!
Midi is pretty weak, was looking for ulterior options for creating . The loops and samples provided are great and very clean. I was close to purchasing the premium package this weekend. There is still so much to learn and digest with this program, I do hope I can find some way to make a more quality song using my own samples/loops/tracks created within the music maker.
Maybe the plus and premium versions have better studio?
I'm not sure what you are doing, but you should read the manual and watch my tutorials.
If you are using an external keyboard to play and create MIDI objects, there is no need to create a MIDI object. Just arm the track for recording MIDI, hit the Record button in the transport controls, and start playing. The MIDI object will be created automatically. To add/record another MIDI object to the same track without overwriting the first object, move the start of the Yellow Bar to where you want to start recording.
Each track should have an instrument loaded. To record on a different track, load an instrument (can be the same one as before), arm the track for MIDI recording, press Record, and start playing.
. . . . Maybe the plus and premium versions have better studio? . . .
That would suggest you are using the free version which is somewhat limited in features.
The only difference between the Free, Plus and Premium versions is the additional features, functions, instruments an soundpools, see the version comparison.
If you purchase the Plus or Premium version you do not have to un-install it, insert the serial number you receive in the top box of the Activation dialog - Help Activate edition . . ., this unlocks all the extras which will appear in the store, you download an install these by clicking the Store gear icon and select Download all purchased content.
Couldn't I create a midi object simply by changing the REC - AUDIO REC to MIDI REC? Is that a back door form going EDIT > OBJECT > CREATE NEW OBJECT > CREATE NEW MIDI OBJECT.?
I only insert a MIDI object if I want to use Step recording or manually draw the notes in the piano roll. Otherwise, I just arm the track for MIDI Rec, press on record and start playing. The MIDI object is automatically created to the length of the recording, that is, until I press stop recording. Of course, after that, any overdubbing of the MIDI object has to be done by recording from the MIDI roll.
quick question.. is Free version compatible with 3rd party VST? I see no place for plugin folder. thanks. If so, its another reason to get the premium version this weekend.
Just so you know, you can activate the VST feature along with more by purchasing the Creative Suite from the Store under Features. For more tracks, you need to purchase More Tracks & Formats from the Store
If you start purchasing each element separately, you will quickly have paid the price of the Premium version, and not even have a quarter of what the Premium version is offering.
Presently, Premium is the best deal.
If you do, you will need to follow the instructions in this Tutorial about Getting Started in MM Part 1:
Once you have the full features package, go to Program Settings, Folders, Audio editor and you'll see that MusicEditor is the external audio editor. You can change this to SoundForge and it should work just fine.
On an audio object, right-click, More options, Edit in external editor and....(drum roll)…. nothing happens and hasn't in this version.
Thus, I suggest that you raise a ticket with Magix advising them (once again) that this feature doesn't work - MusicEditor never opens.
Today is the day, I purchase the premium, excited.
Is there a sponsored plugin by Magix for something like Captain Chords that is better compatible with Music maker? I think that program looks potentially game breaking for me, simply as a reference and mostly for transcribing chords between instruments. It would be an important asset for me personally. Looking for something cheap or free, but I know I get what I pay for, just looking at best options.
Could you please get the programmers to fix this? Soon? It should have been taken care of quickly. (27.0.3.34)

Hi John,
It's already being worked on. I would think that it's a rather quick fix, but the development team only just switched over from ACID development to Music Maker again, and naturally has a pretty big pile of development tasks to get through. The work that is being done now is already on the generation 28.x code basis. So, it's pretty safe to say that there's not going to be another patch for 27.x. The bug fixes will see the light of day in the form of a major update, when Music Maker 2020 is released in the beginning of July. I'll make sure the Music Editor fix will be part of that.
Will the premium version of Music maker be updated to the 2020 edition as free DLC?
I'm not sure what "DLC" means, but Magix update policy is that any purchased software automatically has "free" updates for 12 months from the date of purchase. After those 12 months have passed the user has the option to purchase another 12 months of the "Update Service", and so on...

Hi all,
What Jeff said is indeed true for MAGIX products running under the "update service" model. However, keep in mind that Music Maker abandoned this model already briefly after it was introduced, and is now operating by a "freemium" type model. It's essentially the only major MAGIX desktop product line to do so (unless you want to count the free version of Fastcut).
This means you will indeed get the new version a free update to your current Music Maker installation, regardless of when you first starting using Music Maker or when you purchased a paid-for edition. You don't need to purchase the "Premium" edition of Music Maker 2020 in order to be able to receive the program update and benefit from the improvements and bug fixes. Your only reason to actually purchase a newly released paid-for edition would be to add further in-app store credits for instruments, soundpools and features (or maybe to benefit from other add-on goodies that are part of the "Premium" edition, like e.g. the iZotope Ozone Elements plug-in in the past).
Hope I could shed a little more light on this matter. Not unsurprisingly, this still seems to cause questions and misunderstandings, even among experienced MAGIX product users. (Maybe especially among experienced MAGIX users. You know, they've gotten used to a more traditional perpetual software license for only *two decades* of Music Maker prior to "update service" and "freemium". 😉 )The next big Music Maker release will, among other things, also endeavour to make the whole activation process, in-app store account management and spending of in-app store credits/slots more transparent to the user.
