I have tried OBS for screen recording vs my normal screen capture program - ScreenCast-o-Matic (paid for- got it before went subscription) and found OBS was wanting in terms of quality and load on the PC.
All the screen capture videos I have posted in the forum were captured with ScreenCast-O-Matic and then edited in MEP.
I was wondering about the load. I suppose I can only give it a try as it seems to have been updated a lot. There have been complaints about lag which infers quite a load being generated in use. It only occurred to me recently that I would need such a program now and again. I don't think it would get much use hence I was looking at freeware. I may have to re-think what to do as I wouldn't use such a program enough to justify a subscription.
I had a look at the site and while the download is free there is no mention of a free version. Maybe that is why you get a nag screen? I will look into that one and maybe try a download.
If you have Mozilla Firefox, there is an addin you can download called Video DownloadHelper, I have used it for downloading tutorials for years and of course it is free
I think you have misunderstood what @CubeAce is asking! He wants to know what software other users have to enable them to create a video tutorial using MEP. He doesn't want/need to download a video but rather create one, containing views of his workscreen.
Oops, sorry about that, did indeed misread the post, for normal screen capture I use Camtasia, only because I have had a version for many years, but now many NLEs also have their own screen capture programs
Please don't worry about getting it wrong. You gave me an idea. I have a free version of VSDC editor on my PC that can do this that I forgot about. I'm going to give it a go and see what happens.
I got VSDC editor to work but only at 15fps. Pretty unusable. Even then the audio was terrible and it was skipping frames I think. I don't think my machine is powerful enough to run a second program alongside MEP but I'll try a few other suggestions. I'm not holding out much hope though until I can upgrade my system.
Hi, if you create professionnal training video or demo you must use any software like Camtasia Studio, Adobe Captivate or Qarbon. If you want something less costly but good solution Screen o matic is good but cost 18$ per year. If you play with software or computer you can use any free version. That is my conclusion since over 20 year as user.

I have used OBS Studio for recording tutorials, but not of MEP. I have used it to record graphic intensive programs like SpaceEngine (A 3D universe simulator). SpaceEngine uses many resources to present the universe graphically to you as you travel around. It does make heavy use of the GPU on your card for the graphics. Those space graphics are gorgeous however.
I do not notice much of a performance hit when recording the SpaceEngine screen using OBS Studio. This is because I have an NVidia card that has a feature called ShadowPlay. ShadowPlay is a feature of certain Nvidia cards (GTX600 series and up) that allows the GPU hardware to do the grunt work of the video capture rather than your system's CPU. OBS Studio can utilise Shadowplay do perform its video recording functions.
If your copy of OBS Studio is putting an unacceptable load on your PC, then you may need an Nvidia card that supports Shadowplay and have that option enabled in OBS Studio.
Even though I use it to record SpaceEngine (and other programs like Cakewalk by Bandlab, I am confident that it could also be used to record MEP sessions.
