This is a song that came from a poem I wrote about one soldiers thoughts . all be it my feelings . There was very little stories that came back from Trench life only the dying .Horrible and to think it still happens today .absolutely stupid humans
Standing here smoking my cigarette ,I look down at my boots sunken in the mud
The messenger says we must advance , A few more drags well I get the chance
Well I get the chance
They say there's a door way in the mist, When it opens rows of beds appears
A priest puts a cross on a soldiers lips , There doesn't seem to be many tears ,
oh my worse fears my worse fears
Dug out trenches soldiers hell , Bullets sounding mortar shell .
no one knows how many have fell on a carpet of khaki brown .
No one knows how many have fell no one knows you just cant tell
No you just cant tell .
I got a cigarette in my top pocket , Can someone light it up for me please , Thank you friend .
Will the door in the mist open now ,I think I saw a pretty nurse that last time I looked in
Before I go my friend could you tell me did we win did we win .
I can see your grin I can see your grin did we win did we win .................................
